A Little Baking...

Much of the weekend was spent needle dancing, but a bit was spent making Koulourakia cookies. These look a little more golden because of the rich, almost orange color of the farm fresh eggs I use for baking (and in this case, also as an egg wash). Seriously, once you try farm eggs, you'll never go back to store-bought!

I'm back in the studio today. I have some tidying up to do, and I need to make a few phone calls. Then I'm back to creating gifts. Don't worry, though. I'm taking it easy so I can enjoy my tasks. Tag will see you tomorrow, and I'll be back on Wednesday with more photographs.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
I love snickerdoodles, too! I hear it's going to be icy cold over the holiday weekend, too...PLUS lots of snow. I guess it's winter for real now. sigh
      You stay warm, too, dear!

  2. They look delicious! My grandmother had chickens and their egg yolks were orange also. They made her bread light yellow. So rich and good. Bonnie

    1. Hi Bonnie:
There really is nothing quite as good, beautiful and healthy as a farm/home grown egg. I'll drive almost anywhere I have to to get them! What a lovely memory you have of your grandmother's chickens and eggs. I bet her bread was beautiful and tasty. So much we could still learn from those lessons of old.

  4. Donna - those cookies look delicious. You are so right about farm fresh eggs. I buy mine from my dear Amish neighbors and am very spoiled by the rich yellow yokes. Have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

    1. Hi Debbie:
We should all buy straight from the farmers whenever we can. The fewer the middle men, the better the quality. The older I get, the more I value the old ways. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours, my dear.

  5. Sherry of createology : Must be a good cold day for baking. I made Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies. Your cookies look very interesting. Yes, to the farm fresh eggs. My daughter is raising chickens and has too many eggs but she is in TN so way too far from me. I am also making lots of Peppermint Bark to give to friends and neighbors. Happy Holly Jolly…

    1. Dear Sherry:
Your cookies sound delicious, too! I'm happy to share the koulourakia cookie recipe with you if you'd like. I hope your daughter has neighbors who'll purchase her surplus eggs. I've also learned about a way to store the surplus eggs in lime water (lots of tutorials online), and they'll taste as good as fresh when they're eaten. You'll have some lucky friends and neighbors enjoying the peppermint bark. Isn't this really the most wonderful time of year?
