I thought computers were supposed to minimize paperwork? Doesn't seem to work that way around here. See a great pattern? Print it! A little needlework inspiration? Print it! A remodeling idea? Print it!
I've got stacks of paper all over my studio rooms, and it's time to declutter it. That's part of what I'll be doing today. I'm taking these projects in two-hour bites. I set a timer, and when it alarms, I stop and go to something else. Remember "eating the elephant"? Small bites. It can be done.
Once I put in my two hours, I can reward myself with something fun. I think I'll decide what my next project is going to be and pull all the supplies together. No guilt here. I've earned it!
That's what I thought too!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time after decluttering.

Hi Marilyn:
DeleteIt seems like it's never ending. sigh I'll just keep plugging away.
Thanks!

You have a great plan! I just got cabinets and cubbies in my room. I’m so excited. So I’m unboxing books! If there is no room in my newly assigned space I don’t get to keep it. Some day (soon) I’ll get back to paper goods. Bobbi
ReplyDeleteHi Bobbi:
DeleteSounds like great fun! Enjoy.

I think we still have an inbred suspicion that computers will eat whatever it is we are interested in. Like you, I have reams of things printed out that I know, beyond any doubt, that I will never utilize. We won't mention how many folders of 'stuff' I have saved on the computer too. For some reason I think I should save every picture I ever see of our grandies; most of them I print and put into albums so I don't need them on the computer too. Then I wonder if our kids/grandkids will be the least bit interested in having those albums when I'm gone. Oh well, I'll be gone and I won't care!
ReplyDeleteHi MA:
DeleteI sure do. Retired secretaries love filing systems. I'm facing the same dilemma with all the totes filled with family photographs. I have to sit down with Handsome at some point and make some hard decisions about the vintage ones.

Retired secretary here too - must explain some of it!
DeleteI'm gonna go with it!

I believe organizing the paper stuff is the worst. It's like rabbits, just when you get it down to a few stacks, it starts repopulating again! Good luck - Kathy
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy:
DeleteExactly! It seems I'm always shredding, filing, and dealing with paper. ugh. Glad I'm not the only one.

Sherry of createology: Oh those computers actually create more paper printouts. I also have reams of printed ideas and patterns which I just declutterred and sent to the thrift store. I also sent a few to my friend who is very crafty clever. And I discovered that I can repurpose some embroidery patterns to my watercoloring. Win win!! We have been without our printer for over a month and it is so unsettling not to be able to press the print button. Canon is not our friend! Happy Weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry:
DeleteI just burned tax documents from 2000-2004! You never know when you might need something you just purged. I have to learn to focus and never look back! I can't imagine being without a printer for a month! YIKES!

How do you eat an elephant, one bite at a time, I've said that so many times.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever watched the show 'Hoarding, Buried alive'? That's where I get my incentive.
I just can't stop watching, how does it get that bad? And then I realize that my purging,
de cluttering is a piece of cake, even though it doesn't seem like it at times.
I'm sure you made great progress today.
Shirley
Hi Shirley:
DeleteExactly. I've also heard "Inch by inch, it's a cinch. Yard by yard, it's hard." All clever ways to say, keep after it! I've never watched that show. I may have to check it out. (Usually I just go to Mum's. She's been "saving" stuff for a lot longer than I have, so when I visit, I come home and toss something.)
