Our tree is up and decorated. I love it! This is the artificial tree I purchased the year Handsome left before Thanksgiving to make music in Florida. He was coming home for Christmas, so I wanted to decorate "over the top" for his arrival.
I got busy, putting up lights outdoors; setting out all our vintage family pieces around the house; and decorating this 9' tree with all our cherished ornaments. He loved coming home to Christmas lights all over our property.
The tree skirt was my first actual quilting project. I took a class at a local quilt shop (now long-gone). It turns out, I was the only student and Mom Grace was my teacher. I worked hard and made it that same day, so we call it my one day tree skirt. I fondly remember that day spent with Mom each year when I take it out to place under our tree.
I'm still working on jammies and other projects, too. I have to run to town first thing for a few bits and bobs I need at Joann's (I know. I can hardly believe it either.), and then I'll be in the studio. I guess I'll grab my morning cuppa, and then I'm off to the races. "Ladies, start your engines!" giggle See you tomorrow.
Your tree is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved her, our 6 1/2" slim looked like a mini tree with the high ceiling. :)
Last year we also bought a 9", & we love it.
Mostly decorated with stitched ornament that I made or other people sent.

Hi Marilyn:
DeleteI bet it's beautiful! Your view is certainly spectacular (from IG). I can imaging how lovely your tree is with all the stitched ornaments!

To me, there's something so very warm and Christmasy about today's post ❤ Everything about it stirs up warm feelings... special memories, traditions, things done to show our loved ones how very special they are to us... just what I needed to get my engines started 😊
ReplyDeleteDear Lois:
DeleteAwww. You made me tear up a bit reading your comment. I'm glad I could help bring a little Christmas spirit into my post. I read something recently about embracing the traditions and people, rather than the stuff. I replied in their comments that I can't remember a single childhood gift (well, since I said that, one does come to mind), but what I remember most are the people, the experiences, and the way it made me feel.
Merry Christmas.

Your tree looks lovely! Can't imagine decorating a 9 footer though - wow. We downsized from a 6 ft to a much smaller one this year and it fits our space so much better (to say nothing about the fact the old one shed mightily). Downsized our ornaments by about half too so it was MUCH easier to decorate. The new tree shows how much artificial ones have improved over the years - it looks almost real whereas the old one screamed 'fake' .
ReplyDeleteHi MA:
DeleteThis one looks really nice, too. It was a pre-lit version, so at least I didn't have to climb a step stool to do that part! There was, however, an inordinate amount of "up and down". My legs knew it when I was finished. I found myself fondly remembering the year we had a short tabletop tree in FL. I wonder where that went? Donated, probably.

Beautiful tree! My 18yo daughter was desperate to put up the tree before Thanksgiving and willing to do all the hauling in herself. We let her, and it’s been nice to enjoy the lights and ornaments for so long. I’m sure she will disappear when it’s time to put it all away! I’ve got some goodies to make and menus to plan, but otherwise grocery shopping is all that’s left. Andrea Hickman
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea:
DeleteConsider yourself fortunate to have a strong, young back to haul in your tree and decorations. I was flat-gassed by the time I brought everything up from the basement. Tree one night. Ornaments, etc. the next, and then decorate the tree. whew! I thing we may have done a tree shortly after Thanksgiving in the past, but took my time this year. Lovely that you can enjoy yours for this long. I do love the lights sparkling on the ornaments at night. It sounds like you're on top of everything for Christmas, my dear.
