Please Help Me Decide...

Petit Point Bouquet Canvas

This will be my next project. I've been putting it aside for a while. It's a needlepoint canvas my BFF, Cyd sent to me having found it with her mother's things. As a BFF would do, she left the background color choice and finishing up to me.

Do You Like A Black Background?

I can't decide, so I'm asking for your input. What do you think of a simple, Victorian-style black background? That one's always a winner for needlepoint and makes the design really pop.

How About One Of These?

I have these background colors, too, that I think would be lovely in their own right. Each color appears in some fashion in the design. I numbered them clockwise sitting on the design to give you the best idea of how each color looks with it.

I'd love for you to help me choose. Oh, one more thing. She's left the finishing to me as well. Pillow? Round or square? Framed piece? Oval, round or square? These are all the reasons I haven't even begun the piece yet. I'm going to start it this weekend. I know a lot of you follow and read my blog. I hope you'll comment and let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

    1. Thank you, dear Viola!
How wonderful to hear from you. I love those colors, too. I may take a little of each of the colors and work a small area on the canvas to see how they interact with the petit point. It may help me settle on a color, once and for all. Thanks again for leaving a comment.

    1. Hi, Marilyn:
That's really the classic choice. You know I love classic. I'm going to try a little of each color to see what really speaks to me.
      Thanks for your input, dear.

  3. I always like black the best but think the blue would be pretty too. I guess it would depend mostly on the colors of the room you will put it in. A pillow would be nice or the cover of a small footstool.

    1. Hello!
I wish I knew where it will be placed when it returns to my friend in Georgia. I like black and that blue, too. I'll decide today. I like the footstool treatment, but may mount it on a wooden box when it's done. I'm just not sure yet.
So glad you commented! Thank you.

  4. Black is definitely the easier choice and guaranteed to stand the test of time....however....I really do like the blue and think it would be my choice. That could be because blue is my favourite colour though!

    1. Hi MA:
You're thinking just like me. I'm thinking I may try a little of each color on the actual canvas to see how they look in place. I appreciate your thoughts!

  5. This is a lovely stitchery. Of course I pick the Blue #3. Black Is beautiful but shows dust and lint too easily. I would love it framed in the round however not everyone has wall space. Therefore a boudoir pillow would be very nice. Or simply line it to use as a table topper or chair adornment. I know you will finish it with love and care.

  6. Hard decision I like #1 or #3. I think it would look really good in a frame. It is a beautiful piece of Petit Point. Thanks for sharing can hardly wait to see how you finish it.

  7. I vote for number 1, it makes the other colors stand out and adds warmth to the piece. I think the floral colors are too muted and would just fade into the black. I don't really know how it would finish best, depends on what you need for decor.

    1. Hi Carmen:
Choosing was so difficult, but I went with black. I chose it because I've done other pieces with the black background and it was "safe". I'm doing this at the request of my best friend, so I may just contact her when I'm done to ask her preference. That's going to take a little more time, though, so there's no rush to decide.
      Thanks for your thoughts, dear.
