Needle and Thread...

I won't share progress photos today. I'm going to wait a while to show you my cardinal again. I'm going back to stitching with one thread to get better details.

What I will show you are all the colors that will be going into the two birds and the branch on which they're both perched. These are all Anchor threads (floss/stranded cotton). I'll keep working on this over the weekend, and perhaps I'll share more on Monday.

Can you believe it's the weekend again...already!? Where is the time going? It's nearly September, and in Wisconsin, we look at Labor Day as the beginning of the short slide to winter. I'm going to try to savor every single autumn day I can. I hope you will, too.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
I remind myself that a person can eat an elephant - one bite at a time. This always feels daunting to me when I look at all the threads and the complexity of my design. One bite at a time - or rather, one single strand of thread at a time. I'm looking forward to having a few autumn campfires before the weather turns cold and bleak. We could have perpetual fall and I'd be a happy girl. Alas, that's not how it works in Wisconsin. I'll enjoy every colorful day while I can.

  2. Short slide into that most dreaded of seasons indeed. We've hardly had any what I would call true summer here - just a very long spring punctuated by a few days of heat here and there. Why do I think that fall will be short and right into the white stuff. I don't want to think about it! Far better I dwell on the possibilities of what you are creating with those marvelous colours!

    1. Hi MA:
I understand completely what you're thinking. I've thought the same, but try to push it out of my head. My "almost sister-in-law", Deb said winter is supposed to be unusually cold and snowy. Great. Juuuust great. sigh I hope she's wrong. I'm going to be looking for wooly bears for the definitive forecast this fall. Until then, you'll find me needle dancing!

  3. Love all those wonderful, warm colors, and the start on the cardinal crest! Personally, I'm looking forward to the cooler temps. You can always put more clothing on to warm up. There is only so much you can take off to cool down. (-: I've already endured my allotted share of heavy perspiration days for this year...

    1. Hi Lois:
That's exactly what I tell friends who ask why we would ever move back to Wisconsin winters from sunny Florida. When it's hot hot, as in Florida, all I wanted to do was wrinkle up in the pool (or sit around in my bones!). I can always add a comfy sweater or sweatshirt to warm up. I could never cool off. I also tell people that I inherited my dad's sweat glands. Oh, yay. Ladies are supposed to "glisten", not walk around dripping wet from top to bottom! Fall is my favorite time of year, hands down. I'm with you, sister!
