Friday Night Fare...

Yesterday, it was so hot that the dogs were kicking each other! (groan) Sorry, I just couldn't resist. But, really. It was over 90º with the heat index at 9 pm! I spent most of the day in the studio, but rode around on the riding mower trimming grass for an hour, hoping that the thunder wouldn't bring lightning and rain before I was finished. (It didn't.) It was h.o.t.! Drippy, soak-your-clothes-to-the-skin kind of hot.

When it's that hot - even with the modern marvel we know as air conditioning - it's hard to contemplate a meal. My solution was a crispy salad with a side of cold shrimp. It was the perfect repast to nourish our bodies after a sweltering day. (Oh, Kate...I utilized the Bacardi mojito "plan" we discussed and it worked! Bacardi and I are like this now. lol)

I hope your weather was cooler than ours, but just in case it wasn't...I wish you a refreshing drink, a hammock in the shade, and a cool breeze this weekend.

  1. I love any kind of shrimp and that sure looks good. If you look in my blog you can see the temp here (and that is without the heat factor) and I am also watching the heat on my blog where we are moving (8 weeks and counting)
Also wanted to say thank you Donna for the purchase and donation you made for P A W S (Pets are worth saving) They exceeded their goal by $100.00 and said my donation of pet beds and soap went well. Made my day today to get that Thank You card.
Ialso sent her a small sample of my Goat milk soap and she loved it too.
Now I will be having another special in my blog..a yard sale next month and will be listing tons on ebay while they have their special from now until Sept 7th. I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel..Have a great week end and stay out of the heat :)

  4. That looks absolutely delicious, Donna. I LOVE shrimp (I would eat it everyday, if I could). Salads are indeed the best when the weather is hot and sticky and you don't feel like using the stove. Hope it cools off for you this weekend! Theresa

  5. We have heat but not the humidity, you Southern gals are tough stock to take that! It must be too hot to ride even!

Your shrimp/salad looks fab! It looks like the perfect meal for a hot summer day.

I don't know what the Bacardi Mojito plan was... but that's one of my favorite summer refreshers!

    Have a happy weekend! Cat

  6. Oh, Golly, Donna, our humidity has been horrible! The heat index reaching to 105 ... today & tomorrow a small respite ... THEN it pounces upon us once again into the high 90s & 100s with high humidity. All time record setting summer here ...

Forget the Bacardi Mojito ... just give me the Bacardi ... chuckle!

    Love the dog cliche!

    Have a lovely PINK weekend.

  7. I can assure you our weather isn't much better, if any. Can't tell if I'm sweating due to the weather or menopause or both. That dish looks so appetizing! I wish I was more creative with food. You're creative with EVERYTHING!

  8. Yum...that salad looks delicious! I am feeling guilty as our weather has been quite pleasant here...only in the 80's and very nice. I just spent an hour handwatering plants and find it so very relaxing. Happy cooling...Bacardi might help that.

  10. Have you noticed that everybody's heat is always the worst? We have a dry heat here in Phoenix with temps in the summer frequently of over 110. The hottest day ever was 122. It's a dry heat, as they say, but anything over 110 will cook humans! However I just returned from the Texas/Louisiana border where they were experiencing 99 and 99 (99 degrees with 99% humidity) and I have a hard time distinguishing which is worse. I just know I changed clothes and bathed a lot more in Texas than in Arizona! But at the end of the day a cool shrimp salad under that bless-ed AC makes life pretty grand!
