Doing What I Can This Christmas Season...

Brynwood Needleworks - Socks In Progress
Even when I'm under the weather, I have a difficult time just sitting around. When I'm healing, I sleep most of the time, but I don't really just want to snooze through my recuperation. I'm trying to move around, gently, but I really have to be careful.

So, I decided it was time to find a gentle pursuit to keep my mind and my hands busy. I'm thinking socks, mittens and caps are on the gift list this year. It's a lot easier than sitting at my sewing machine, and unless I buy them this year, there may not be Grammie's Jammies. I know our grandchildren will understand, but it will be the first time in eighteen years that I probably won't be able to make them. (insert sad face here)

The most important thing is for me to completely heal, so I'll keep my needles busy as I knit my gifts this year. I know that, in the long run, they care more about Grandma's health than a pair of pajamas. I want to be here with them for a long time to come.

  2. I got the giggles over my breakfast reading when I envisioned knitted pajama pants! Do heal. That is most important of all.

  3. Your family will feel loved regardless of what you make. They see the heart behind the gift. We are nearing the end of quarantine after everyone in my house got Covid. We’ve worn our masks everywhere, sanitized like crazy people, had Thanksgiving at home with no guests, and still ended up with the mess. It was miserable, but thankfully we all had mild symptoms. Still can’t get past the weird experience of no taste/smell! Anyway, I have finally almost finished hand quilting my daughter’s quilt that I started 6 years ago. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you “have the time”! Take care and you will be back to normal before you know it!

    1. Dear Andrea:
So sorry you got ill! I pray that people who get it, recover fully. The world is just topsy turvy because of it. I long for "normal" again. I'm so glad you're feeling better, my dear. I'll do the best I can. We can always celebrate early in the new year, too. Small victories, day by day. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Too bad you couldn't find a pattern for a wee pair of knitted jammies - and then you could make them for each of the kids to put on their tree. There probably IS a pattern out there somewhere! Then they'd get their jammies, but not quite in the same format.

  5. ...or....you could knit a wee stocking and put a note promissory note inside for jammies when you feel up to it? Maybe look at knitted doll patterns and see if there's something you could adapt to look like pj's?? Just a thought!

    2. You're welcome for the ideas - some would say I'm full of them (or at least full of 'something' anyway!).

  6. Yes, your health and healing is far more important than any Christmas gifts. Your family will understand.
