I've decided to offer a favorite book to one lucky reader.
This book is The Civil War Love Letter Quilt, and as
suggested by the title, it's filled with letters written between
people separated from their loved ones by the Civil War.
The author, Rosemary Youngs, has compiled many moving and heartfelt
correspondences from a painful time in our nation's history. Amid all the
fighting, there were many poignant personal stories.
Each letter and story has a full size quilt block to illustrate it, and
there are also quilt instructions and applique' patterns in the back.
I love reading my copy so much that I

It's one of those books that a great read, and I'm sure
you'll love it even if you're not a quilter!

ReplyDeleteThe cover alone looks great. I have heard much about Civil War quilts and would love to learn more about them. 12000 posts is certainly a good number, imagine how many hand written diaries that would be!

1200 posts - that's amazing. It seems like only yesterday since you started this all off. What a great looking book. I don't know that I've got it in me to do another major sampler quilt but I'm sure the reading is enthralling.

Congrats on #1200!!! I think I've got about a 1000 to go before I catch up :) I'm already a follower and HUGE FAN of Civil War literature, stories, fashions, etc. It's one of my favorite historical time periods to study. Which sounds awful, considering it was a War and so many terrible things happened. I don't romanticize it, but I do enjoy the study of it. Beautiful book and quilt. Thanks Donna :) Karen
