My 2022 Word For The Year |
It's time for new outlook; .a new start to a new year; a new Word For The New Year to guide my thoughts. After much consideration, I decided that "DeClutter" would be my word for 2022.
We've been in the farmhouse nearly six years (I know. Hard to believe, right?) and I'm still tripping over things for which I'm unable to find a place. Too much still in boxes. Whatever will I do with all the books that once lived in our Florida home's library? I think we may need to finally build some shelves for them. Other things will find new homes, and I'm still working to move fabric out of the fabric studio.
The truth is, things take up as much space in my head as they do in our home. 2022 will be the year I/we do something about it.
I also changed up the look of my blog header for this season. It's a little more in keeping with the weather outside, and the typical pursuits that fill my days. Of course, I needed to include an updated version of the dogs! (The outside girls will be in the header for next season, I promise.)
So this is where it will begin. Perhaps I'll share the process with you, stopping along the way to capture a few photographs - "Before" and "After" images so you can see the difference improvement. It begins today.
I'll let you know how the first effort goes when I come back on Wednesday. Tomorrow is still Taggart's day. He's looking forward to it. I'm off to grab a quick coffee before I tackle my first room. See you later!
It seems like I always declutter every start of the new year also.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I took the tree down & went through all of my Christmas decorations.
Some are in a box for St. Vincents. It feels good.

Hi Marilyn:
DeleteI bet that feels good! Bravo, you for already getting started! I cleaned the pantry and put the small appliances we use (but not all the time) into a cleaned out cabinet in the basement. I won't be able to find anything in the pantry for a while, but it sure looks organized! lol

Perfect choice for “word of the year”! I need to declutter some myself. Less is more.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie:
DeleteThank you! I completely agree. Less is more. Now to get there...

Great word choice. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress and enjoying your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary:
DeleteThank you! I'll share photos of some of my projects very soon!
Happy New Year.

I am always interested in reading about the 'words' that are chosen by various bloggers. I don't actively do that but I think, if I did, this year I would use the word 'resiliency'. January here at Chez Magpie has traditionally been a month that involves decluttering and cleaning - a throwback to the theory my mother lived by. She never did the traditional spring or fall housecleaning and instead preferred to do it all in January. I guess it's rubbed off on me. Although - can't say the urge has struck me this year as yet!
ReplyDeleteHi MA:
DeleteI love "resiliency"! We could all use that one these days, my friend. Your mother was a wise woman, I think. Good luck in the new year.

Amen! Sometimes we can feel like a slave to our possessions, occupying too much of our time in trying to take care of unnecessary items... and that of course weighs on our minds, keeping us from better thoughts. In recent years I've been making efforts to declutter (sometimes ruthlessly) so that I can truly enjoy those things (...activities...people!) that matter most to me. Last year I sold my large quilting frame because I knew I really wouldn't be hand-quilting anymore... irritated my back, took up way too much room, wasn't my favorite creative outlet, yadayadayada... I agonized over that decision, but once it was in the hands of the new owner - who was absolutely delighted to get it - I felt wonderful! Gone was that nagging feeling that I really should be using it! Woohoo! I wish you a successful year of decluttering! And much more time for happy creating! (-:
ReplyDeleteHi Lois:
DeleteI love the way you think! The things that are most difficult for me are the things to which I'm emotionally attached...a memory, a gift from a dear friend, my fondness for family history...arrrgggghhh! It's inspirational to read your story about moving on from something you really loved. Thank you. I'll keep you posted.

Excellent word for 2022. Your new banner is lovely for Winter. I am trying something a friend is doing this year. She is decluttering 22 things each month and she began in December. I thought WOW but once I began it was amazing how many things I could donate to charity and how much I could eliminate from my mind. My body weight is the worst challenge I have ever faced (old age?). Here’s to a less complicated 2022…
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry:
DeleteThanks so much. I like your friend's idea of 22 things per month. Hmmm. Where to begin? I understand the body weight issue. Menopause has made life difficult for my weight loss desires. I'm going to keep plugging along with that and be happy for small victories. You're not alone.

Thanks for sharing this post. It has inspired me; de-clutter will help me move forward with my word for the year which is peace.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sherry!
DeleteI love your word, too! I think we could share words this year.
