Well, This Is Unfortunate |
I recently received a great spritz cookie maker from my sister, Diana (who is a talented baker and Pampered Chef consultant). I've never made them before, but I've certainly seen (and eaten) plenty of them. "How hard can this be?" I said to myself.
I mixed up the dough according to the recipe, filled the clean press and started making cookies. Or not. The first three dispensed exactly as expected, and then it just got messy from there. I tried everything - including pleading - and this was as good as it got.
I Should Be Embarrassed |
Finally, I just cried "Uncle!" and went with it. I sprinkled sugars or sprinkles on them, and popped them in the oven.
Once they cooled, I put them in the container, thinking "Pass in a crowd...if the crowd's big enough." Ahh, yes. My "Committee" had spoken. If you don't know (or remember) this reference, click HERE. This post will explain. Actually, it's a good thing I linked to this post, because I reread it. Good timing, don't you think?
I texted Di, sharing the photos with her. Then we talked on the phone. We had a good laugh. I mean, who can't make a spritz cookie (beside me)? I think it's good to be reminded from time to time that I don't have to be perfect.
I'll likely try making them again. Sometime. They're so tasty and pretty when made properly. If you've ever made spritz cookies, please feel free to share your secrets. I'd really like to learn from people who have successfully made them.
I've had that happen also.
ReplyDeleteI think the dough gets too warm, not sure.
But they sure taste good!
You are not alone. :)

Hi Marilyn:
DeleteI don't know either. I checked the instructions to see whether or not I was supposed to chill the dough, and it said not to. They are tasty, just misshapen. ugh lol
Thanks!

They look like my “tried once” spritz cookies. I could hardly press the dough through the container but they were tasty! I must have burned lots of calories just making them so that justified eating a few!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie:
DeleteI feel like I need to "beat the press", but not until next year. I don't think the calories of "mistake" cookies actually count at all. hee hee

They look like the spritz cookies I HAVE made. Like you I thought how hard can these be. Well after a few years of trying I gave up. Every Christmas I think I should try again as they are so pretty and taste good.
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy:
DeleteHappy New Year! It's glad to know I'm not alone. I'd like to think I'm not a quitter, but with all the other cookie possibilities, I'm sure tempted! I think I'll give it another go next year. We'll see.

Years ago I tried making them. I had gotten the machine for a Christmas present. Disaster! I just could not make them right. I couldn't believe it, I was so good at baking.
ReplyDeleteNext summer, sold it in a garage sale. lol
Hi Susan:
DeleteI'm so glad it's not just me! I don't feel so bad knowing it's the machine and not me. I'm going to see if there's a YouTube tutorial that might teach me something I missed. I'll let you know.
Happy New Year!

My Dad always had a saying 'it will all taste the same when it gets where it's going' (and I can't tell you how often we've had to repeat that one!). Wonder if the dough might have been too warm? No basis in knowledge because I've never made them.
ReplyDeleteHi MA:
DeleteYour dad was obviously a wise man. Handsome didn't care either, but he did giggle. He helped by saying he doubted that his mother made them perfect the first time either. I felt much better. I adored his mom.
Happy New Year!

Oh my goodness. I think you got a defective Cookie Spritzer tool. Just eat them and enJOY!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry:
DeleteI almost snorted my tea when I read this! LOL Maybe it was! I'm sure they'll eat just as well.
