Zoom!...

Zoom Goldwork Class Setup

Last night was the first session of the "Lucky Clover" Zoom class I took to learn goldwork techniques. It's taught by M. Clara Warschauer. She's @clarastitching on Instagram.

Our class was 1-1/2 hours long, and I spent much of the class taking notes and watching her techniques. I'll be doing my homework between now and the last session next Wednesday.

Clara is right in saying that goldwork is easier than it looks. An added plus is that the gorgeous metal components really elevate wherever they're used.

I'll share updates as I continue to work on my piece, and of course, you'll see the finished brooch. If you listen carefully, you might even hear me giggle as I work on it.

Can't wait to see it finished.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
I'm stitching away. I'll have one more Zoom session, and then work on it until it's finished next week. More soon!

  2. I haven't entered into the realm of Zoom - it's enough for me to figure out (sort of!) Skype and Facebook Chat. I suppose one of these days I'll have to succumb but for now my learning curve is figured out how to make a call on my 'smart' phone. It makes me wonder when a phone calls itself 'smart' - scary stuff!
I'll be fascinated to see your progress with goldwork. Another something I have yet to try.

    1. Hi MA:
It took me a while to add yet another social media site to my repertoire. Zoom is great for online classes and family interactions (when our daughter-in-law got us into family visits during lockdown). It's not very difficult to use, and I'm especially glad I could avail myself of it for this class. It's a great format for that, considering our instructor is in New York and the students are located miles and miles away.
As for the goldwork. It was one step forward, two back yesterday. I used the wrong "thread" and didn't realize it until it was all stitched down. Of course, I essentially destroyed it removing it, so I have to order more from our instructor before the next class session. (aaarrrggghhh!) It's looking good now, so I'm happy.
I'll be looking for sources if I continue to enjoy the method.

    2. Should have read this before I made the comment on your new post - so sorry the thread was destroyed in removing it. Seems to me that it's quite expensive too so that's not so much fun.

    3. No worries, dear. I'm only learning now about the cost of goldwork materials. Thankfully, they're not REAL gold (in most cases).

  3. Goldwork stitching will be right up your alley of wonderful thread/needle dancing. I look forward to following your progress.

    1. Thanks, Girlfriend. As you know, learning something new can be fun and frustrating all at once. Making a mistake with metallic fibers is a little unforgiving. You can't salvage much if you have to take it out (because of a mistake). I'll be ordering more fiber from the teacher today, as I goofed up in the very first step. snort!
More as I continue to work and learn.
