Brynwood Needleworks - Traffic Up And Over The Hill |
We heard about the terrible accident on Interstate 75 at Atlanta before leaving home yesterday morning, so we decided to reroute across the Florida Panhandle to Alabama to avoid the traffic. Apparently, we weren't the only ones.
Traffic was horrendous through parts of Florida, and we thought we were finally shod of the messes by the time we hit Hwy. 10. Boy, were we wrong! We were in stop-and-go traffic from Dothan, AL all the way to Birmingham.
It took us twelve hours to get to
Birmingham, which would usually be nine or ten, tops. We didn't get as
far as Nashville as originally planned, so we stopped outside Birmingham
at a Quality Inn - who unlike the fully booked La Quintas in the area - charged extra for the dogs. ("They're considered
guests, too." ha!)
Brynwood Needleworks - A Better End To The Day |
We stopped for the night around 8:30 pm, and after airing and feeding Tag and Bella, we headed to the Alamo Mexican Grill. I limited myself to one beverage and a light dinner. We were back at the hotel, said our goodnights, and then headed to our rooms for some well-deserved rest.
Today will begin around 5 am. I'm hoping the traffic and weather cooperate so we can make better time. I'm also hoping to meet up with a friend at one of the Nashville exits for coffee and a quick hug before continuing north. I'm pretty sure I'll sleep like a baby at Hickory Hill Farm tonight. No April Fools!
Hello Dear. So sorry you have had such traffic. I have had no internet all weekend as we were out of town off to the races. We also encountered miles of traffic as we neared Napa and Sonoma and our final stop for the night, Novato. Wayne says the traffic has been like this for over 25 years! Whew! Sears Point at Sonoma was wonderful once we arrived and got parked. Did lots of walking.
