We've Got Company...

I spent yesterday doing the same things all of us do in our homes...laundry, cleaning...you know, the usual stuff. You know what that means, right? I mean, who's going to take blog photos of cleaning and laundry and closets - or me in my "cleaning attire"! Not me. That's for sure.

Instead, I'm going to share a photo of our "company". This critter has moved into our retention pond in the back of our property. Don't worry. Taggart is never allowed back there and he's never out of my sight when he's outside. The gator is about three feet long. Not really very big, but whenever Handsome or I stand near the shoreline, it comes toward us! I mean right up to edge of the water where we stand.

Now, understand, I don't have a problem with the "Live and Let Live" school of thought, but this gator is spending days and nights munching on our fish, scaring off our turtles and just generally scaring off any other animals that I might prefer to have in our yard.

We're hoping that it moves along very soon. It's been about two weeks and if it doesn't mosey off on its own, we'll call someone who can invite it to live somewhere else. The biggest thing I've been concerned with is that it's mama or daddy is in there with it. We haven't seen anyone else so far, and I can't tell you how much I hope it stays that way!

I guess I'm looking forward to this guest leaving soon and moving on to the canal another street over so that it can live it's gator life away from our yard. I sure don't want it inviting its friends over to party at our place!

As I left the house yesterday to go to town, I passed two deer grazing near the side of the road. They looked up when I got close enough and then ran into the woods. If I could choose, I think I'd ask for deer rather than gators to reside on our property. Yes. That's what I'd choose. Please.
I'll spend today in Venice with my friend, Loreen. I'm taking that paper piecing class that I told you about yesterday, and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll let you know how all about it tomorrow.

Hi Donna,
I'm so happy to hear that "You WILL call to have him moved if he doesn't go on his own"!!! SOONER PLEASE! I think you should make that call ANYWAY! OH MY now I'm sounding like everyone that DID NOT like when I posted pictures of the Bears I have in MY YARD! Well, I worry about You and Handsome and little Tag!!!

Oh Donna,
We had a gator several years ago who decided that the neighbor's Aussie terrier was dinner. Please don't take any chances with Tag off lead. Please, please get someone in there to escort him out and check for relatives. Are you completely fenced in? Chain link? You could electrify it to keep the pond gator free. I'm going to feel a lot better when you've had this guy taken away. There is nothing in a gator's eyes but evil.

Yikes! The nerve of those gators. Uninvited and not welcome that's for sure.
Have you been to Wisconsin lately?

Love the deer. Don't think I could live with the gator.

I'm in Florida too and they won't catch and remove gators here unless they are 4 feet or larger. I wouldn't want one in my back yard either!

Hi Donna Just a short note before I go out the door to work. Please call someone to come remove your uninvited quest. They do come out of the water. My boy has seen along the side of the highway in Louisiana and they weren't in the water. Is this the first one that you have seen that close to your house? I don't like those I have had deer in my back yard close to the house that I could look out my kitchen window at them. Since they have built up all around us I don't see them near as much. Have a great day Hugs from your Missouri Friend.

AAAHHH! Scary Donna! Back up here in Wisconsin I watch for the Great Horned Owl and the coyotes that live right here. My two little dogs are watched very carefully also.

He's scary! I know you are careful with Tag, but it scares me anyway! Twyla

I think that having something like that close by would give me the creeps!! I hope that he moves along soon!!

I am so glad we don't get visitors like yours in New Zealand. The worst we have are big bugs and the occasional spider which can give a nasty bite. Nothing man-eating or fatally poisonous thankfully.

Enjoy your class.

Yep, make the call, Donna! It has obviously been fed by humans, as its natural fear of you both is gone. It won't take but a few seconds for that thing to cross over to where Tag is located & you'll never forgive yourself! Trust me, you CAN'T move fast enough to rescue your precious pup.

We had one in our back yard as well as one up on the neighbor's porch when we lived in Venice. Both times, the game wardens sent out guys to capture & remove. Once they get used to people, they are a BIG DANGER!!
The ones on our golf course used to run away as soon as we approached, so this one is very different.

Hugs to you, Friend,
Wish I could go up to Venice with you...I can't wait till next Feb. so I can see that new quilt shop!
