No More Bling...

Did you ever have something that just made you feel fancy? A special dress, a pair of shoes, or the perfect color lipstick? I'm not talking about anything life-changing or expensive. I'm only talking about something that added a touch of glamour without being over the top.
I've owned these glasses frames for nearly fifteen years. They've been my prescription sunglasses for all that time. Through them, I've witnessed happy events, hidden sadness, appeared in public without eye makeup, read a book or protected my eyes from the sun. I've received compliments from strangers whenever I wore them, and they just made me feel good.

You may notice that they don't have lenses in them in these photos. You may ask why not. I'm sorry to report that they have finally failed me. After years of service and multiple prescription changes, they finally just croaked.

Last week, I took them to the optician who has taken care of our glasses since we moved to Florida and gave him my newest prescription. He put them into my faithful frames, smiling that I would be using them yet again, and then called to tell me they were ready for me to pick up.
After I got to his shop and he was fitting them, he groaned and said that the frame had split. (see arrow in this photo?) None of those crystals ever came loose or fell out. The gold trim was just as pretty as the day I bought them, and the hinges never failed. But, alas...the stress of being my favorite pair of sunglasses finally became too much for the frames to bear.

I can't bring myself to throw them out. Don't worry, though. I'll be fine. Really.

  1. Oh, Donna, I just had to giggle at this post. You and I are sooo much alike! I got just a tad of bling (on the side) on my first ever prescription eye glasses. If you read my profile, I admit that if I love something, I love it FOREVER.....thus a crowded home, overflowing, bursting at the seams, etc. etc....be it sunglasses, lamps, dishes, furniture!

  6. I can certainly understand, and appreciate, your attachment to those frames. They would probably end up on one of the stuffed animals that remain in my house due to the attachment of "feel good" memories! I am sure you will find a special spot for yours.

  7. I immediately pictured you keeping these frames and adding some sort of altered art into the lense openings. Fun to keep as they are special bling frames. Yes, I do realize I am a bit quirky...thanks to my mom! Happy Wednesday and I hope you find some equally wonderful frames you will love for a very long time.
