A Little Sunshine Stitchery...

The weather was perfect yesterday. The sunshine and mild breezes beckoned me outside all morning. By afternoon, I knew it was time to indulge for a while.

I grabbed my thread box and a few scraps of linen and just followed my muse. I listed to music and visited with the little wren who has a nest in one of the birdhouses. She is a talker!

A little while later, I had a tiny bouquet of lavender finished. I can actually smell the lavender in the kitchen garden as I sit here. The breeze was in the right direction with me downwind.

Claudette decided to bring a mouse onto the porch. Thankfully, she hadn't harmed it (yet). I told her what a good girl she was so she wouldn't run away from me. Even so, I did have to follow her around the porch until she was close enough for me to grab her by the scruff of the neck. Once I did, she dropped the mouse and it scurried away. I was glad that Crystal was off in another direction so she missed the exchange, or she would have certainly chased that frightened poor mouse.

I put Claudette in the house and then coaxed Crystal in, too. That way the mouse stood a chance of making a safe escape. They were confined to quarters (despite their noisy protestations) for the rest of the day.

I'm not sure how I'll finish this needlework. Perhaps a lavender sachet would be most appropriate. Yes. I think so. I work today, so I'll think more about that when I get home. This was just the ticket for me for now, though.

Just Finished And Mailed...

Brynwood Needleworks - Latest Commission

I so love creating these! There really aren't enough hours in a day for all the things I want to do, so I try to pack my awake hours with as much as I can. The word "bored" just isn't in my vocabulary.

This piece was finished for a client who has become a dear friend. She has more of my strawberries in other colors, but wanted this blue one for her collection. It's already carefully packaged, posted, and is on its way to her in Minnesota. One of these days, we'll meet somewhere half way for lunch and a visit. I look forward to that!

It's already Thursday, and I can't believe another week has almost passed. A haircut this morning, and then I'll be back to work on my next project.

The porch railings are coming along nicely, and all of the outside lighting is now installed. I hope to show you our finished porch some time late next week. Fingers crossed!

Holly Berry Strawberry...

Brynwood Needleworks - Holly Berry Strawberry Design by Erica Michaels

I completed this commission on Sunday, and sent it on its way yesterday. My client requested that I fill it with lavender buds, so it smells heavenly. It was truly a pleasure to stitch this small design on 32 ct. linen, although I admit, I'm much more dependent on my lighted magnifier now than I used to be.

Today, I'm making two pieces for a client...one is a Corgi Clutch bag, and the other is a Kirby with dachshund fabric accents. I'm going to make two of those, so I have a second one to put in the shop. It's a cute design.

I'll show you the completed pieces tomorrow. Then, I'll only have one more commission to complete before I get to this year's Grammie's Jammies. Off to the studio! The elves are calling!

Ready To Relax...

Brynwood Needleworks - Mighty Oaks Project Tote

I got the last of my pending orders completed and shipped yesterday. (I do have three wallets to make next week, but these had July 5th deadlines.) I wanted to have them on their way before the holiday weekend got in full swing. I made it!

Brynwood Needleworks - Strawberry Lavender Sachet

I had another woolen strawberry piece to stitch, but this one wasn't a pincushion. My client wanted me to fill it with lavender buds. I think it smelled heavenly, and I packaged it in plastic to protect it in transit. It left for its new home mid-week.

I'm going to clean up the studio today, and then I'm going to enjoy the rest of the weekend. I think a cookout is in order. How about you?

Diane Knott's Acorn Bag...

Brynwood Needleworks - Diane Knott Acorn Bag
This sweet, little acorn bag was created by my friend, Diane Knott - and now it's mine! Diane does beautiful work and this piece is perfectly made.

In addition to my new bag, Diane also made a dress-shaped lavender sachet for me. Not only is it pretty, but it smells delightful, too! Thank you so much, Diane! I love everything you create.

If you'd like to visit Diane's website, you can click HERE. Diane is a talented watercolor artist, fabric designer and needleworker. Once you visit her page, you can also join her Facebook page to see what she's creating next! Have fun exploring, and HAPPY WEEKEND!

Lavender Sachets...

I just know you're going to love these beautiful lavender sachets that
recently arrived from my creative friend, Dawn at The Feathered Nest!
One of them has a scroll with the words "May friendship's well never run dry".
I especially like the daisies on this one. (It's Mom Grace's favorite flower.)
This other one features a vintage image of old-time roses with a
"Many Happy Returns" message in the corner. These roses remind me
of the rose-covered wallpaper on the walls of my childhood bedroom.
She embellished the beautiful images with her signature seam binding
and then she added sparkling buttons. Don't you think it's just a perfect
touch for the lovely pink and green floral images that Dawn chose?
I'll be showcasing these fragrant sachets in the studio for a while. They
smell great, and they also make me smile just looking at them. I think
they'll fit right in, don't you? Of course, later I'll move them to my
bureau drawer where I'll enjoy the aroma of lavender every time I open it.

So Far, So Good...

I was busy working on the quilt project again yesterday.
I had already assembled strips of fabric, so the next step
was to cut the strips and then sew them into squares.
After I made the squares, I assembled them into blocks.

I assembled three. whole. blocks. today.
woo hoo!
Then, I took them to the bedroom, lay them on the bed
and determined how many blocks I will need for the quilt top.
5 blocks in a vertical strip.
5 strips across.
25 blocks in all.
I assembled three. whole. blocks.
Twenty Two blocks to go.

Recognizing that you might not want to see all the details of this process, I've only posted one photograph of the project today. But...if you'd like to see how I got to three. whole. finished. blocks. just click on the photograph above and it will take you to my Flickr album (tutorial) showing all the steps (except ironing...because, well, who wants to watch me iron?!!)
Twenty Two Blocks To Go.

Oh, and I finished another strawberry.
I love making these!
I'm calling this one the Lavender Strawberry Rose.
I filled it with organic wool and lavender buds.
It's quite large, too. Fits in the palm of my hand...barely.
Like it?

I'll Give You Another Peek...

I thought I'd share another peek at a few of the gifts I sent North...
I sewed up a couple of zippered pouches in a coffee-themed fabric...
added some ribbon in a latte shade of tan...
and finished it with a sweet little coffee pot charm on the zipper pull.
(Go ahead - click on the photo so you can see it better!)
Perhaps they'll use them for their Starbucks gift cards - or coffee fund.
You've already seen the lavender-filled, linen sachets
that I made as part of these gifts.
I added the little zippered pouches and placed everything
in the muslin bags I embellished with sweet machine embroidery.
Do you think the recipients will like them?
Is this a gift you would appreciate?
Well...Because you've read all the way through this post,
I'm going to offer a set like this to one of my faithful followers.
Just leave a comment on this post and
tell me what you like about this gift set.
I'll choose a winner on Christmas morning and
I'll tell you who won on Saturday.
(That will give all my busy friends a chance to stop in and enter.)
Aren't you glad you stopped by today? I certainly am!
