Brynwood's Blog Birthday...

Brynwood Needleworks

Goodness, how time flies!
In fact, I almost missed that March is my anniversary month.
It's hard to believe that I've been blogging for seven years.

Brynwood Needleworks - Family

In that time, I have shared stories and images about my family;

Brynwood Needleworks - Studio Threads

invited you into the nooks and crannies of my studio space;

Brynwood Needleworks - Strawberry Roses

and shared processes, tutorials and finished projects made by my hands.

You've watch (and cheered) as I tried new things and reinvented my small business;

Brynwood Needleworks - Dress A Girl Campaign

and many of you joined me in making dresses and dolls (616 so far!) for young girls around the world.

Brynwood Needleworks - Linens and Ribbons

Thank you for traveling with me for the past seven years of my joyful and creative life. I hope you'll continue to join me as I endeavor to make my blog and each post more interesting than the last. In fact, you can look forward to a new look very soon!

A Bowl Of Berries, Please...

Brynwood Needleworks - Strawberry Blossoms & Roses Sachet
This one is finished and on its way to Minnesota.
Brynwood Needleworks - Strawberry Blossoms & Roses Sachet
I could happily sit and stitch my strawberries, hours on end.
Pulling ribbons into tiny rosebuds, blossoms and ruffles;
Brynwood Needleworks - Strawberry Blossoms & Roses Sachet
improvising stems, leaves, tendrils and even tiny thorns;
Brynwood Needleworks - Strawberry Blossoms & Roses Sachet
stitching bullion bars into apple blossom petals all fill me with joy.

Until the next one...

It Was A Very Good Day...

Brynwood Needleworks - Handsome's Vest
Destiny and I got those buttonholes sewn out first thing yesterday, leaving just the buttons to be hand sewn in place. It took a whole twenty minutes for me to finish Handsome's vest for his gig last night. Now he's "regulation" for this group's dress code.

I left it a bit roomy, thinking it might be more comfortable for him to wear while playing. If he prefers it to be more fitted, I'll make that alteration later. I'm extremely happy that I was able to sew it together on a relatively short notice for him. This is the shortest lead time I've had since about thirty five years ago when I made what I called the "24 Hour Embroidered Shirt", for a relative. That's a story for another day.

Handsome loves his new vest, which makes it that much more rewarding for me. He appreciates my efforts and attention to detail, and that's why I'm pleased to make anything whenever he makes a request.

After the vest was done, I turned my attention to the Strawberry Blossom & Roses Sachet that's next in line. All the ribbonwork is finished (there's more than what shows here) and it's ready for stems and leaves. I'd say that yesterday was a very good day.

I'll be at Nifty 50s today, so this will be what I'm working on while I spend time with some of my quilting friends. What are you working on these days?

A Gift From Michelle...

Brynwood Needleworks - Michelle's Sunflower
Having creative friends is really a wonderful gift. I especially love when a mutual admiration for each other's talents opens hearts and doors to sharing those abilities.

My friend, Michelle Palmer recently created this scrumptious needle punch sunflower. Her needle punch skills, when combined with her drawings, results in the most glorious creations. This one was something I couldn't resist and I told her so.

Michelle told me that she loved my strawberry sachets, so I made one especially for her...and then we traded. A gift for a gift.

Brynwood Needleworks - Michelle's Sunflower
When The Sunflower arrived, I couldn't believe how much more gorgeous it was up close. All the tiny loops created in the needle punch process, all perfectly sized from one to the next. Michelle's artwork turned into a needlework piece that took my breath away.

I'm certain that I fared better in this arrangement. I'm keeping this piece on my table where I can look at it often. as I contemplate what it should be...a cushion; a framed piece; part of something larger. I just don't know yet.
Brynwood Needleworks - Michelle's Sunflower and Card
Even the card she tucked in made me smile. I'm reminded of the farms of Wisconsin, and all the holstein cows that dot the countryside. I have a deep affection for them, and the card immediately brought back memories of our last home before we came to Florida.

Everything about Michelle's gift warmed my heart. I'll treasure her needlework, and her card, for a long, long time to come.

Thank you, my friend.
Thank you for the massive gift of your talent and time.
My heart is full.
