I Nearly Wept...

Last night was our monthly meeting for the Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild.
At the end of every meeting, we have a Show & Tell of all of the projects that
our talented members accomplished between our last meeting and the next.

There were so many incredible quilts and works of art that consistently
continue to amaze me. The women of our guild are always inspiring.

My friend, Barbara Cartwright was the last person to show her pieces.
She shared a number of items that were completed not only by her, but
also by other family members and her sons for an annual family challenge.

Then, to my surprise, as she turned to reach into her box one more time
she said, "This last piece is especially for Donna."
What? Something for me?

She pulled out the first completed block for our guild raffle quilt!!!
Barbara had taken the block on vacation with her where she finished
assembling all of the elements and then stitched it to completion.

I nearly wept when I saw it, and every one of our members showed
their obvious enthusiasm by applause. This first block was completed in
record time, having been worked on by only three of our members:
Kathy and Nora (from Sandy's Quilt Shop) and Barb.

Barb is an extraordinary quilter and her applique' work is second to none.
This is truly a job well-done, in record time, and will stand as an
inspiration to the rest of us as we work to complete our own blocks.

In fact, another member, Karen, said she can't wait to find out the
appraised value when we complete this quilt. We've chosen an
appropriate name for it (American Treasures Album Quilt),
because it will truly be a treasure when all of us have finished it.

I'm so excited that I can't wait to get back to working on mine,
and I'm sure that I'm not the only one. I suspect there will be a lot
of busy bees working on their blocks this week!

  5. Donna, what a beautiful block. The basket of flowers topped by your beloved acorns. No wonder you nearly wept. I would have too.
