Drum Roll, Please...

I'm not finished uploading all my products yet, but I'm ready to debut a new online shop through Zazzle. In case you're not familiar with their platform, Zazzle is an order fulfillment company. For my part, I upload my designs, choose which products I'd want to sell and add them to my shop.

The customer finds what they want, places an order, and it's produced and shipped within a few days. This is one of the options decided to try, considering I won't be able to do those two shows this fall. I'll still have my Etsy shop, and I'm considering one other venue I'll explore further once the Zazzle shop is running smoothly.

You'll currently find items featuring Tag, Bella and Carly's artwork on them, but soon I'll add Claudette, Crystal, and even a few neighborhood visitors, like Roxanne Raccoon, Otis the Opossum (perhaps you remember how he captured our hearts in early spring of 2022?), and even the so-far unnamed ground hog from this summer. I'll likely add some additional images from the farmhouse kitchen and gardens, other custom art, and some of my needlework images. (I'm still contemplating those things.) I'm opening small and will build as I continue creating more products in the coming days.

My shop name is simply Brynwood, and HERE's the link for anyone who might be interested in a little window shopping. Hope you like what you see, and I would love your feedback on items and shop appearance. Let me know, too, if you'd like to see something special that I haven't listed. Thanks for looking!

Fabric Sale...

Brynwood Needleworks Online Shop

I spent the day yesterday listing up more fabrics for my online shop(s). I currently use the Etsy platform, which is a simple-to-use format for me.

I have a lot of gorgeous yardage that I want to move out of the fabric studio. I need more room, and realize there are some beautiful fabrics that I'll never get to. It's time to share the wealth.

Brynwood Fabric Offerings

I prefer to photograph my offerings in daylight, so my listing time is limited each day. There are over thirty listings available right now, and I'll be adding many more over the next few days.

So, here's the deal...All the fabric yardage is listed at $5 (FIVE DOLLARS!) per yard, and I'm paying half the cost of postage when two or more yards are purchased. I prefer to ship in USPS Flat Rate Padded Envelopes, which I'm able to pack with about six yards of fabric.

If a listing is for less than two yards of fabric, I have the full postage amount listed. However, I will combine shipping for additional orders, refunding any amount paid over half the amount of a padded envelope. If you order more than what will fit into a flat rate envelope, I will still pay half the postage for a flat rate box.

All the fabrics listed are in pristine shape, and ready to move from my studio to yours. There will be kits, fat quarter assortments,  jelly rolls and other precuts that I'll get listed, in time. So, if you're curious, click HERE to go window shopping.

Also, please let me know if you're looking for something specific. I have fabrics from Moda, Timeless Treasures, Robert Kaufman, Andover, Hoffman and more. Just send me a convo through my shop, or send an email through my blog.

Happy March 1st!

Latest Farmhouse Finds...

Brynwood Needleworks - Farmhouse Finds

I stopped at my favorite antique mall yesterday and came home with a few fabulous finds. Let's start with this stack of beauties, shall we?

Brynwood Needleworks - Farmhouse Finds - Enamel Mixing Bowl

This is an enamel mixing bowl. It has measurements on the inside and was an advertising bowl for Volrath Company here in Wisconsin. I'm especially fond of enamelware and this will be a useful addition to the collection.

Brynwood Needleworks - Farmhouse Finds - Large Ironstone Oval Dish

I also have a few lovely ironstone pieces, and this is the largest one now. It's an oval dish that measures about 9" long. I'll use it in the (new) studio, and it will also be welcome in the kitchen. It's in pristine condition with no cracks, chips or crazing.

Brynwood Needleworks - Farmhouse Finds  - Large Enamel Tray

This is the largest enamel tray I've ever found. I popped a few wooden utensils into it to give you an idea of how large it is. It's about 3.5" deep, and it's also in great shape.

Brynwood Needleworks - Farmhouse Finds - Grain Sack

The antique mall is in Kewaskum, Wisconsin. As I was walking around, I say this intact grain sack that was being used as a table cover. It's like a big pillowcase, so that's likely how I'll use it. I'll insert a king size pillow into it and then close up the end. It might look nice on the sofa or on one of the beds...after it's washed.

Brynwood Needleworks - Farmhouse Finds -Enamel Cabinet

Speaking of enamelware, I also found this great little cabinet. I needed something to place next to the washer in the basement for holding cleaning supplies and my homemade laundry soap. It's the same height as the washer.

Brynwood Needleworks - Farmhouse Finds - Cabinet Top

The top is in great shape, too. It was marked $35.00, and the booth was having a 30% off sale! I'd say it was the perfect price, too.

I spent $85 (including sales tax) for all my purchases and came home with some really useful, practical and attractive, vintage items. I'm looking forward to installing all of them in the farmhouse.

When I got home, I spent the evening stitching. I'll show you my finished Block Nine tomorrow.

Quilt Shop Day...

Brynwood Needleworks - Primitive Gatherings "Somewhere In Time" (On my To Do List)

Yesterday was the day that my girlfriend, Kathy D. and I went quilt shop hopping. We do this every year, and this year we headed back up to the Fox River Valley. This will be the fourth or fifth year we've done this, and I'm hoping it's a tradition we'll be able to continue for a long time to come.

Of course, our first stop was to Primitive Gatherings in Menasha. With all the construction up there, I guarantee I could not have driven to the shop this time on my own. Kathy was my "pathfinder", and after much detouring, we arrived.

(Here's the link for the pattern for the gorgeous quilt shown above. It's now on my To Do List.)

Brynwood Needleworks - Primitive Gatherings Serious Road Construction

This is just a small glimpse of the road condition all the way around the corner where the shop is located. I actually took this photo on our way out of their parking lot. One thing I can tell you is, even though it makes for difficult travel, it hasn't harmed their business. Cars were leaving when we arrived - and cars were arriving as we left! Lisa Bongean has some seriously devoted clients, including us!

Brynwood Needleworks - The Weather Vane - Lunch Stop

We had lunch at the Weather Vane in Menasha. I knew I was back in Wisconsin when I saw the portion sizes. I ordered a southwest chicken wrap and it was HUGE! There was no way I could eat more than half.

Two of these mugs came home with me for our coffee station in Florida. Nice, heavy, diner-style cups filled with hot coffee and conversation is always how Handsome and I start our day together.

Brynwood Needleworks - Primitive Gatherings Purchases

I purchased most of the wools I needed at Lisa's shop. I had to order my overdyed black wool because they were out of stock in the shop, but that will likely be waiting for me when I get back to Florida.

Now I have the oranges I need for my Wooly Critter "Crow and Pumpkin" block, as well as the other colors I needed to complete the other three blocks. It won't be long before I have all of them finished.

Brynwood Needleworks - More Purchases

I bought a few patterns, as well as two kits (only one shown). I'll share them in detail later. I also picked up the Row by Row fabric license plates from two of the shops. I wasn't keen on the one offered by the third shop, so I left it behind.

We also went to two other quilt shops, Piece by Piece and Going To Pieces again, but I'll share those purchases another day.

Brynwood Needleworks - Kathy...My Partner In Crime

I dropped Kathy back at home in Fond du Lac before heading to our campsite. We drove through a little weather (and we had more thunderstorm-y weather in camp during the night), but we're both home - safe and sound - having had a great day of shopping and friendship.

Thanks again, Kathy. It's was just perfect.

A Preview Of Things To Come...

Selections from Primitive Gatherings Japanese Fabric Section
I thought you might enjoy seeing a few more goodies that I purchased when I was
out with Kathy last week. I can't tell you how I'm itching to bust into this new stash!

This assortment is from Primitive Gatherings. I'm completely taken with Yoko
Saito's gorgeous designs, so I planned to raid Lisa Bongean's selection of Japanese
fabrics at her shop. She certainly didn't fail to deliver, and I'm already planning just how
I'm going to utilize these (and other) stunning fabrics when we get back to Florida!
Primitive Gatherings Wool Charm Packs
I also needed specific fabrics from their wool assortments, and again, I wasn't
disappointed. Pam W. asked me to see if I could find some "greens" for her. The
hardest part was deciding which greens to take back. There were so many choices!
Yup. More Primitive Gatherings Fabrics.
I'm a firm believer that one can never have enough charm packs. Two new ones
will be returning with me to Florida. I simply couldn't leave them behind!

Carol G.: I checked out the "How Does Your Garden Grow BOM" as requested.
It's beautiful, and I think you'd love to do it. (I'm still contemplating adding it to
my list!) The colors are beautiful and I like that the blocks are a triangular shape.
Fabrics from Keep Me In Stitches, Appleton, WI
On occasion, quilters purchase fabrics simply because they walk past them on the shelf
and get the proverbial tap on the shoulder. We hear those time-worn words, "Please
take me home with you". Even when spoken slightly above a whisper, we find that we
must comply. While I'm sharing three such fabrics, here, believe me, there. were. more.

I feel I should tell you at this point, that every year that Kathy and I have taken
a day to "hop the shops",  I have a special tote that I take with me. I'm usually
finished shopping when it is full. (This year, the Japanese fabrics put me over
my limit...but only slightly. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!)

FYI: My "tote" is a genuine Nantucket Diddy Bagg™. It's the same style and
fabric weight that the sailors use, not the lighter canvas version they now market to
needleworkers, quilters, et al. Mine is the original Rigger™ model in natural canvas.
I purchased it when Handsome and I were visiting his brother who lives on the island.
I love the darn thing and it always travels with me whenever I know I'll be shopping.
Click on the name above and check 'em out. (I don't get paid for the endorsement.)

Anyway, let me finish telling you about the fabrics in this picture...
I saw this little "Gadget Cushion" on the shelf at Piece By Piece Quilt Shop
in Appleton. I asked Kathy about it and she directed me to these fusible panels.
Gadget Cushion Panel
They were "a buck twenty" each and in clever Quiltsmart™ fashion (they
designed the "Mondo Bag") all you do it fuse fabric to the panel, sew a few
seams and presto change-o  you've got this groovy little place to rest a gadget.
(Yes. I did say "groovy". It's ok. Granddaughter #2 says, "I'm authorized.")
Quiltsmart™ Gadget Cushion Panel
So, I chose a few special fabrics to make a Gadget Cushion for Handsome.
I'm sure I'll be making more as gifts, and, stuff you purchase for your spouse
never counts against the bottom line, does it? Right. I didn't think so either!

We Hopped 'Til We Dropped...

Yesterday was my annual Shop Hop Day with my friend, Kathy.
We really had fun. In one of the shops, she was referred to as my
sister, so we decided that was cool and we'd just go with it.

We hit four different shops, beginning with Primitive Gatherings in Menasha.
That shop is always my favorite and it's for the best that I'm only allowed
in there once a year - or every two! I had great fun in there this year. Really!
I really liked this quilt, so I purchased the pattern and a template for the leaves.
The piece reminds me of Florida and I'll likely do mine all in batiks. The pattern
is called "Remember", but Laundry Basket Quilts, in case anyone else wants one.
These are a few of the patterns I purchased. I have a lot more to show and tell,
but I also was struck with a severe bout of "clumsiness". After our first stop, we
decided to go to lunch. We found out that the establishment didn't take credit cards.

Really?! Who doesn't take credit cards these days (well, beside this place)?
I told Kathy I needed to find an ATM. Went next door and asked and the owner
took me out the back door to the parking/street area and pointed out a US Bank.
He should have pointed out the uneven pavement instead. I started walking the
half block to the bank, and missed that the sidewalks have multiple ramp areas
for handicapped people. I took a tumble and really did a number on my hand.

My right hand took the full force of the spill, helping me avoid a total header.
As a reward, I have a cut up hand. Where I fell was full of pea gravel, dirt and
who-knows-what-else. The owner came out and helped me up, took me back
inside his shop and showed me where the restroom was to clean up my hand.

I still walked down to the bank and got cash, and I knew that Kathy would be
wondering what happened to me. When I finally joined her and told my story,
our waitress came back with a big bag of ice and a towel. It felt better with
the ice. After I got back home, I iced it up again and took a pain pill.

Remember when I told you I have joint arthritis in both of my thumbs?
Yeah. Exactly where it hurts the most. Pill is helping, but I'm not able to
spend more time at the computer, so I'm going to close for now and show
you more of my purchases on Monday. My hand just hurts too much. Sorry.

I'm going to go take a nap now.
Thanks, Kathy. I had a wonderful day, yet again.

Celebrating Your LQS...

Image from Martingale Publishing
Today is the second annual "Support Your Local Quilt Shop Day"!

Those wonderful women and men who supply us with all the fabrics, fibers
and notions to indulge in our quilting obsessions deserve a little extra love
from us. Some will have special events, but all will appreciate our visits.
Image from Martingale Publishing
You'll find me at Sandy's Quilt Shop this morning. It's time to celebrate our
Coffee Club friend, Joni's, Birthday - and I'm sure we'll each find a way to
thank Kathy and Nora for all the hard work they do to keep their shop full of
inspiring and fresh fabrics for all of us who love to spend our time sewing.

So today, stop what you're doing, take an hour (or three) and head to
your own LQS so you can tell them how much you appreciate all they do
to support and promote the quilting arts. Let's all have a great day!

Road Trip...

Handsome and I took a little road trip yesterday. We went to Tampa to the
Ikea store! We were helping a friend who needed our truck to haul home a
purchase, but we did a little shopping, too. Why not have a some fun of
our own? We also had lunch in their restaurant before heading back home.

Talk about sensory overload! Sofas, tables, chairs, kitchens and more! This is
one of those places where you'd just better have a list before you even think
about going in the front door. Trouble with a capital "T"! We had a great time!
We even came home with a purchase of our own, but we didn't overdo it. We
decided on two Lack Wall Shelves and we knew just where we want to install
them. After they're all assembled, we'll mount them on the wall and place a few
special pieces on it. One will hang on the wall in the studio, but I have a little lot
of cleaning and sorting and tossing to do first. I'd better get after that toot sweet!

It's Saturday, so it must be time for Coffee Club again.
Tag is coming with me today, so I'll let him tell you all about it on Tuesday.
Have a great weekend, girlfriends.

A Beautiful Day With A Beautiful Friend...

Rather than head north from our camping location this year, Kathy chose to
introduce me to two fabulous shops in the south-central part of Wisconsin.
She pointed our chariot toward the Madison area and we we off!

First in our two-stop trip was "J.J. Stitches" in Sun Prairie.
(I've made the shop names a link, so you can visit their websites, too!)
My intrepid quilt shopping partner, Kathy.
When we walked in, we were greeted by high ceilings, mountains of fabric, walls
covered with delightful fabrics and a warm and friendly face behind the counter.
She was more than happy to answer our questions and help during our shop stop.
Kathy told me that the shop owner's specialty is to purchase antique
quilts and then create patterns in current fabrics to sell to other quilters.
I think that's a really great idea to keep those old quilts alive. This one is a
version of her "Martha Washington's Star" quilt. The large quilt was not
set on point, but all the colors were the same scrumptious blues and whites.

I was especially taken with the "writing on the wall" above it. It reads,
"ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS ENOUGH TIME."
-
This is one in a series of woolworked Blocks of the Month. When completed,
the pieces are just moved in and out of the frame. The calendar page below was
simply a page from a scrapbook shop. It's mounted into one of two standard
12" (or was it 14"?) square frames that are joined with two hinges. By placing the
blank calendar behind glass, the dates can be written in with a dry erase marker
and changed as needed month-to-month. Isn't that a clever idea? We both agreed,
and Kathy signed up on the spot for their twelve-month (only $20/mo.) kit program!
Another clever idea was to take a quilt/applique' piece and frame it.
The piece was not finished and bound. Rather it was mounted on acid-free
stock with reproduced pages from old quilt magazines. I really liked this
idea, and I think it would look especially nice to hang in a studio (like mine!).
For those of us who do woolwork, this is another way to display postcard-
sized pieces. They were stitched onto a larger wool fabric piece and then
mounted into an open (and fancy) frame. Its quite a contrast between the
simplicity of the woolwork and the ornateness of the frame. What do you think?
After visiting JJ Stitches (and leaving a few $$$ with their friendly clerk), we
walked down the street to the Market Street Diner. The place was hopping and
the food was great. We chatted over our meals and then left to head further west.

Our second and final stop of the day was at the "Country Sampler" in Spring Green.
I mentioned how quaint their little downtown area was, and Kathy told me that
there are only about 1400 regular inhabitants in town, but the tourist trade and
traveling Wisconsinites, such as herself, help support their commerce.

This shop is a wonderful mix of cross stitch and quilting, all with a prim flair.
Everywhere I looked, the soft muted colors caught my attention. I found myself
pondering just how I might purchase the gift of "more time" mentioned in the first
shop, so I'd be assured of completing each and every lovely quilt. Each finished piece
had nearby piles of bound kits patiently awaiting the quilt shopper's eager hands.
I also loved how each quilt was thoughtfully displayed in this shop. I could just
imagine these quilts lying across our own beds and keeping us warm on
(all-too-infrequent) cool Florida nights. I must find out the name of the light-colored
quilt pattern. The kits for it are right behind the wool pillow, and although I didn't
purchase one of the kits, this one continues to call my name. Perhaps "mail order"?
I adored the antique, wrought iron crib in the front window...and the
quilts that made up the bed. Again, the kits were part of the display.
I told Kathy that I have been wanting to make a patriotic quilt of my own,
so when I saw this lap quilt in soft, muted colors - with kits in the basket next
to the bed, I snapped one up to add to my purchases. The flags are pieced and sewn
using a red and white ticking fabric and a blue and white star fabric. Then they're
sashed and bordered with the linen colored cotton to complete the quilt top. This
will make a fabulous quilt that will be finished in no time! You'll see this one soon.

I have to again thank Kathy for being my chauffeur and tour guide to two more
wonderful shops. As always, we had a great time together and we'll do it again
next year. Our most difficult decision will be whether or not to just rotate our trips
between shops in the south or shops in the north - or to seek out new shops to explore.
We won't worry about that now. We have a years' worth of quilting to accomplish
before then. In the meantime, I'll smile when I remember the day we spent together.
A beautiful day, with a beautiful, creative friend making brand, new memories.
