And Now, We Wait...

Brynwood Needleworks - Farmhouse Living Room Before

When we moved into the farmhouse, I was saying that our days of purchasing brand new furniture were over. That was really my plan, but we've been here five years now, and I've been rethinking that decision.

While I love every piece of furniture in this room, I don't think they 1) go together very well; 2) make the room feel very spacious, and 3) as we're "maturing", some of this furniture is more difficult to get in and out of. So, after a conversation with Handsome, we decided to go furniture shopping.

Brynwood Needleworks - Sectional

We went on four different outings over four days to furniture stores, and began with a new electric recliner for Handsome. That took time, because he's tall, and a recliner really has to accommodate his long legs. We found the perfect one, and miracle of miracles...it was in stock, and actually delivered three days later!

When we went home after that purchase, we decided it might be the best progression to sell the furniture pieces we no longer wanted to keep, so I listed the two leather Stressless™ chairs first. They sold within twenty four hours! Then, I listed the leather sofa and loveseat. Both were sold in two days, and gone over the weekend.

Fortunately, we had another Stressless™ recliner in Handsome's office that we could move into the living room, and I already told you I brought a nice tolerable padded lawn chaise in from outside as an extra temporary piece until whatever we chose to replace in the room arrived. (Of course, it never occurred to me that we'd have to order, and then wait.)

The sectional pictured above is what we chose. It's the right size for our space, a lighter color that I really wanted (Handsome's recliner only came in a chocolate-y brown.), and it provided a cohesive look for the space. The only thing was that I really didn't want that big, square, monster ottoman shown with the set.

Brynwood Needleworks - Coordinating Fabric

So, I asked our great sales associate, Patty, to help me find something that would coordinate without looking like a "near miss". I grabbed one of the accent pillows and we went in search of an ottoman that fit my parameters.

This sectional was a perfect match for one of the colors in the pillow, and it came with an ottoman in the size I wanted. However, they only had it in gray on the showroom floor.

Brynwood Needleworks - Alternative Ottoman

This is the size I want, but shown in gray. It even has the same legs as the sectional we've chosen. Now, knowing the the other color option was perfect for the sectional we wanted, Patty was accommodating enough to move that ottoman over to the sectional so I could see how it would fit.

Decision made! The ottoman was the perfect size, and it came in a fabric that was nearly a match for the sofa.

Once all the hard work was done, we went to the desk and placed our order. Alas, it's not in stock, and will be manufactured in Arcadia, Wisconsin (Way to go! American made...in my home state, no less.) As the purchase was made on the weekend, we had to wait until yesterday to find out when it would be scheduled for production. We weren't lucky enough that they could have one in stock just waiting for us.

I got a phone call from Patty yesterday to give us the scheduled production date...November 15th. Okey dokey. I'm told that some people are waiting four or more months, so I'm not going to complain. I didn't want to settle for another section that was close to what I want. This is exactly what I want. So now, we wait.

That's good for now, though. I'm planning to make white linen curtains for the living room windows, and it will be easier to get that accomplished when there's less furniture to move around. (I'll keep telling myself that.) I'm just hoping that, if the production date changes, it moves closer, not further out. I'll let you know...

    1. Hi Laura:
I've had the yardage for months. I really do need to decide on curtain rod style and get them made and hung. I think they'll really be lovely in the room. I can't wait for the rest of our furniture to come. I never thought we'd be buying brand new again, so this will be a real treat.

  3. Glad you were able to find just what you want and that the store was willing to swap out the ottoman for you. The wait is not fun but it seems like that's pretty common during the times of the virus. Friends are waiting for a new fridge - it's been six months and no sign of it coming anytime soon. They're just praying their old one hangs in long enough.

    1. Hi MA:
I'm sorry your wait has been so long. That's awful. I hope your fridge comes soon, too. I hope things get back to normal soon. This will be my exercise in patience. ;-)

    1. Hi Andrea:
I'm so sorry you haven't received your furniture yet! When our sales associate called, she said that the date is November 15th, but it could change "out" on the calendar. I'm hoping that we can stick to the November 15th day. Fingers crossed.
