Plum Sweet Hexies...

Brynwood Needleworks - Plum Sweet Hexies

In the spirit of doing a little more handwork, I did an inventory of what I have in process that I can work to finish now. One of the projects I've been overlooking is the bag of hexies that I've already begun.

These are hexies created using a fabric line from Blackbird Designs called Plum Sweet. I've had these since 2016 (I've written about them before HERE, too), so I don't even know if this line is still available, but I have an idea to finish these into a nice quilt.

I'm going to turn these into hexie flowers, and then they'll be appliqued' to a whole cloth background. I have lovely solid colored Moda fabric, so I'll use some of that as the ground fabric. I'm going to play with some layouts, and then decide whether or not the finished piece will be a bed scarf (to lay across the foot of a bed), a lap quilt, or a table cover.

I need to sew the light borders to the outside of the Everlasting quilt before I can embroider the lavender and bees, so this project will be what I'll work on until I can comfortably sit at my machine again. I'm looking forward to it! (It's about time, don't you think?)

    1. Dear Laura:
I bet your daughter treasures your quilt gift! I'm sure yours will be much more intricate than mine will be. I still have charm squares to make more, but there are only two more packs of those small squares and then I'll have to be finished, as I don't think I can get more of them. Thanks for your comment today, dear.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
I think it could be a nice, manageable project to work on and complete. I'm anxious to see what I can create with the materials I have.
      Thanks for your note today.

  3. I think I have only two UFO's and my hexie project is one of them. I've tried a couple of different layouts and ideas and nothing has gelled. Maybe seeing yours evolve will inspire something. For now it sits in the time out corner. And speaking of sitting - continue to be a good girl and heal!

    1. Hi Maggie:
Only TWO UFOs???? How do you do that? I really want to know. I'm constantly distracted ("Oh, Look! Another project I want to do!!") I'm impressed, girlfriend!
I hope I can inspire you to get down to only ONE UFO. sigh. lol.
      Thanks for your note.

    2. I don't count projects I'm actively working on as being UFO's. As for the low number - it's apartment life and lack of space for storage that accounts for it.

  4. Beautiful colors that fit a farmhouse. Enjoy! I can’t wait to see it.

    1. Hi Andrea:
I love the colors, too, and think the flowers will work best for a table runner or a bed scarf, depending on how many I can create with the fabrics I have. I'm curious to do them now to find out!
      Thanks for your note!
