Let's Chat About Blogging...

Immokolee Art Celebration Image
I want to tell you about how I feel about "blogging"...writing my web log these
past five years. I've read bloggers who say, "I've hit a slump" or "I need to take a
break" because they don't have anything to say, or they don't know what to write
about. The only time I've "taken time off" is when I've felt a deep loss - like when
my sweet, little Corgi, Fezzik died unexpectedly. After all this time, I can still
find plenty to talk about, and it's really easier than you might think. I'll explain.

When I set up my very first header in 2009, I wanted to have a guideline to follow.
I kept personal journals years ago, and when I went back to read through them, I
was horrified! I realized that I used my journals as a place to bitch and complain.

I couldn't imagine a loved one stumbling upon those grim books years later. My
life is so much better than those paltry complaints written in my own hand on lined
pages. So, I decided that my blog would be filled with "thoughts on a joyful and
creative life"...sharing my beautiful, wonderful, blessed and love-filled life online.

Do I sometimes find it difficult to come up with interesting and inspiring ideas?
Is anyone always interesting and inspiring? (I know I'm not!) So what I do on
those days is slow down, make a cup of tea and write to you as though I'm sitting
across the table from a few of my wonderful, creative girlfriends...and I just "chat".

I chat about my day. I ask about yours. I show you what I've made recently, or
something I'm working on right now. I tell you about my little dog (or he's at
my feet amusing you all by himself), I walk about life with my Handsome,
supportive husband and his music...and sometimes I openly share my faith.

But one thing I decided that I would not do with my blog is use it as a forum
for complaining or what I call "holding forth". I'm sure, if I chose to, I could
easily tell off bullies, talk about politics or other injustices in the world, and
not only would you not be interested, I would have lost interest years ago, too.

I don't use the word "depressed" ever in my vocabulary because I believe the
words one uses often become the life one lives. So, even on those days when
I'm not all sunshine, butterflies and puppies, I act like I am. I don't just do it
for you. I do it for me, too. I want what I send out into the world to be lovely
and joyful. I want my legacy to be remembrances of an honest, well-lived life.

I don't post my Sunday Scriptures from a position of perfection. I post them
because they speak to the person I want to be. I share them because they might
serve as inspiration to others, too. I'm not perfect, but I don't give up trying
to be a better person. I hope that sharing my faith might help others be happier.

So, all that being said, I imagine that some of you just might start or end
your days with me over a cuppa tea, coffee or hot chocolate. We sit down
together, share a few projects or a laugh or two, and we leave each other a little
better than before. If I manage that once in a while, I think I'll be happy
knowing I accomplished my goal here in my own little corner of cyberspace.

I sure can get wordy, can't I? (giggling) Well, my time is up for today. Let
me give you a (virtual) hug and wish you a glorious, good day. Thank you
for stopping by again to visit with me for a little while. I really appreciate it.

I'll be back tomorrow and hope you will be, too.

  1. Donna, I haven't known you - or read your blog - that long, but from what I've read, I think you hit exactly the right note with your blog. I look forward to seeing what you've been up to...and Tag, too!!! I take your Sunday Scriptures the way that you put them out there. And, I have been inspired by more than a few of them. Thank you for being here for us to enjoy.

  2. Donna just keep on doing what you are doing, I always enjoy your posts and pop in every day, even if I don't comment that often. I have fits and starts with my blog and wish I had something to say every day, maybe I should try a bit harder!

  4. And This My Dear, is why YOU have made ME a better person. You just spoke my feelings for me. I love life, I love being creative in any manner of mediums and you constantly remind me of who I strive to be. You are correct, you become the words you speak. Take care and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Gloria

  5. I always enjoy your blog! Funny, but I stopped paper journals because I found I, too, always complained in them. I know I get slack on my blog at times but it is not because I don't enjoy it.

  6. Wonderful way to start this first day of spring. Although, snow and sleet was not what I had in mind. I always enjoy your blogs and go back in time thru the archives. Sweet memories. Sure to bring a smile and a chuckle. Thank you for always sharing and caring my friend. Warm hugs from Vermont xoxo

  8. Here's the thing that I find really interesting - I read a home improvement blog by a young mom who is just so talented and heartfelt and just seems like a really nice person. Much like yourself. :-) A couple weeks ago people went off on her because she posted a project that wasn't "professional quality" in their opinion. I mean, WENT OFF ON HER. I don't comment a lot, but I happened to comment on that day and was just horrified. I'd love to blog, but I don't have the guts because I don't think I could tolerate the criticism. I'm all for someone suggesting how I could improve, (oh, please I want to be a better machine quilter) but I don't think I could take ugly comments. That's why I give you so much credit. It's HARD to put yourself out there the way you do, day after day. In this age of "keyboard courage" (I read that on Human's of New York on FB)otherwise reasonable people go off on bloggers like they did on poor Lindsay. So, kudos to you, Donna. You bring me a smile every day. But especially on Tuesdays. XXOO

  10. Donna I have missed coming by here and visiting with you.
I enjoyed reading your post today and agree with what your saying.
You might not want to visit my site and see my last post because I do mention the word depressed. I felt I needed to explain why I haven't been blogging.
You have been a Blessing in my life for years now and I am lucky to have you to visit because I do love you and your delightful site.
    Love
    Maggie

  12. Thank you Donna for making your decision to keep the drama of life off of your blog. Your blog is the one I begin or end my day with (time difference reason). I know I will always be inspired, amazed, and think twice about how I conduct myself for my day ahead. Taking the high road is not always easy. We all have choices and Life Is Not Easy however being Joyful is contagious. Thank you Dear!
