Thanks For The Boost...

Only one design element left...I'm adding beaded "dangles" under the piece of dicroic glass at the bottom of the mandela. It will be a wall hanging - almost like a dream catcher - when it's finished.

I'd like to thank everyone who left such kind comments about this project. Also, thanks to everyone who offered to take it off my hands if I decided not to gift it to the original recipient. You gals are just the best! Just when a girl is losing a little self-confidence, you go ahead and dish out a super size helping of Confidence Booster! Thanks so much!

The recipient of this gift is a 20-something, single mom, and I think she's going to like having it as a new piece of decor to hang in her home. I've added a little sparkle within the colorwork, and then the major bling at the bottom. It's already quilted - in my signature doodle pattern from my younger days - and bound in a sage green batik. Lastly, I'll add the rings for hanging it. Another project will be completed today, and then I'll start on Grammie's Jammies!
These are the fabrics I've chosen for this year's Christmas Eve jammies for our grandchildren. I'm going to move right along on these. Three pairs of pajamas by the end of the week.

My sister leaves today to return to the frozen wilds of Minnesota. It's been great having her here to visit with us. She's been running around in shorts during our current cold snap (in the low 60s during the day and into the 40s at night). I shiver just looking at her. What a tourist! (lol)

  2. 7 degrees tonight in northern Indiana.

Your quilt turned out great! The black thread really sets it off. It reminds me of coloring when I was a kid. Outlining all my shapes. It really turned out pretty.

  4. The dichoric glass adds just the right touch. I thought it was pretty before you added the bling. Adding the bling really sets it off. That is what makes you an artist, your eye for detail and knowing just the right touch to add. Your young friend will treasure this.

  6. My interest in mandelas was boosted quite a bit after watching the Tibetan Monks work on their sand mandelas at a museum.
So I found your project of particular interest.

This gift you have created is quite an eye catcher - beautiful and unique.

The surrounding stitching make the colors pop out.

  11. Your mandela turned out just beautiful! I'm sure the recipient will love it - it will brighten any wall. I enjoyed seeing the texture the quilting gave it. The bling at the bottom is just right for it.

  12. Beautifully done, Donna...what a great POP of color for her walls. Very contemporary & yet the quilted aspect of it makes it vintage as well. BRAVO!

  13. Honey, just one thing......I didn't use #12 pearle cotton on the mandala. I only used it once on the "Flowers by Mail" quilt. On my mandalas I use #30 weight thread. It doesn't have to be so thick. Try that next time, but great job for your first attempt!

  14. Dear Carol:
Thanks so much for the information. I did think it was a bit heavy for this application (with all the detail). I've learned something new from you, and now something new to make it even better next time! Thanks a million.

    Make a note, gals!
    xoxo
