Nicknames...

We've always given our pets nicknames. Kes also answers to "Kessler", "Kes-witch", and "Kessie-bear". My nephew, Julian came up with Kessie-Bear, and I actually use it the most.

Already, Fezzik has engendered more than a few nicknames of his own. We've taken to calling him "Fez", "Fezzie", "Fezwick", "Mr. Man", "Shorty", "Short Stuff", "Little One", and Handsome's favorites, "Vienna Sausage" and "Sawed-Off".

Isn't it funny how we spend so much time coming up with just the perfect names for our furry friends, and then, within a matter of weeks, we create silly, sweet "pet" names for them? The temptation is irresistable, I tell you.

It's not surprising really. When you love something or someone, you often find an endearing term or nickname for them. Handsome and I have nicknames for each other, and we have nicknames for our sons, their wives and our grandchildren, too. I love the names that we share mostly with each other. Nicknames in our home whisper "love" each time they're used. Even our pets can sense it.

We always had nicknames for our family members when I was a kid. Names that we only used with each other. As we grew older, only a few stuck (thank goodness!). Do you use nicknames in your home? Care to share?

  1. Poor FEZ!!!!!!!!!! Sawd off & Vienna Sausage... his Daddy should be ashamed! I bet it doesn't bother FEZ a bit.

Ny Daddy had a nickname for me & TRUST ME... ONLY HE COULD USE IT! Yes, nicknames are a funny thing. But, they have to make you pause & smile. Have a great week. HUGS!

  4. First, loooooooove that photo!!! Dogs in cars. Always happy travelers!
Nicknames abound around these parts. It's rare that I call anyone or anything by their real name. That would be so boring. ;)

My cat Winnie is Winnie Bagel, Nannerpuss, Monkey Butt, Babbity Winnie, and a whole host of even more nonsensical names!

I wonder what they make of all of it. :-)

My youngest grandson (13) is Mutt, Moose, Kyle Kyle by the Mile, and Sweetie Pie

Oldest grandson (15) is Corey ory ory, Magnet (which was given to him as 3rd baseman because he always caught the ball but given to him now because of the girls), Allie because he is a fighter, and Big Foot...6'3 with size 13s.

But my baby is Jack who is part boxer and labrador (he's a box-a-dor). We call HIM Jackie Chan, Black Jack, Black Jack Shelack, Mr Dog, Puppy Chow, Puppy Boy, Munchie Mutt and Taily Wag. I love him.
