I worked in my Etsy shop yesterday, creating a new banner, and adding new listings. Soon, I'll be adding new digital files featuring my wooly acorn pincushion, corgi pincushion and strawberry pincushion patterns. It's nearly time to update my blog banner, too, so look for a new look here, as well.

Beautiful Resource Books...

 

When Clara (@clarastitching) first recommended Hazel Everett's book, Goldwork, I immediately purchased it. Last weekend, she also recommended Hazel's second book, "Goldwork and Silk Shading", which was published posthumously. Of course, I purchased that one before our class was over, and it arrived yesterday.

The second book contains much of the information from the first one, but has completely different designs. It also incorporated more thread work, and then combinations of silk shading (with threads) and goldwork. There's so much beautiful inspiration!

Clara has stitched the piece on the cover of Goldwork, and I intend to do that one also. I have a few other pieces to complete first, and I suspect this one will be more of a long-term effort. No rush, you understand.

 

If you'd like to learn goldwork, or simply read and learn, I can highly recommend either book for you. I ordered mine through Amazon, but I'm sure they're available from other vendors, too.  I thought you might like to know. 

New Inspiration…

 

“Goldwork” by Hazel Everett

I’ve told you before how much I love books. It pains me that most of ours are still in storage. Much of my goal for downsizing my sewing/fabric studios is to turn my fabric studio into a library/guest room. 

So, it should come as no great surprise that I had to have a goldwork book recommended by my current class instructor, Clara Warschauer. It arrived on Saturday, and I’ve had my nose buried in it since then.

Clara told our class that it’s her favorite book for this technique, and she shared a piece she’s created from the book (shown on the cover!). It’s beautiful. Once I’ve finished my wreath project, there’s a smaller piece inside that I’ll attempt. I have already added some of the supplies to my sewing box, so I’ll be able to get right to it. 

For now, I’ll keep my blinders on and my fingers busy with my “Everlasting” embroideries, and the floral wreath in goldwork. I think it’ll be worth the wait.
