I'm Hexied!...

Brynwood Needleworks - Lots of Hexie Flowers

I've been busy with my hexie project! So far. they're assembled in groups of seven to look like flowers. (See where my logo is at the bottom of the photograph? Make that one #1, and then count five more clockwise, around that creamy white center.) I haven't sewn the flowers together yet, as I contemplate what I'd like for a finished product.

I'm trying to decide whether to stitch them together (like this) to make a table runner, or separate them to stitch onto a whole cloth background. Handsome said he likes them scattered onto a ground fabric to show off the flower shapes (plus the end project will be larger). I'm torn.

What do you think?

  1. Looks so pretty. I am doing the same thing. I started years ago and had about a dozen ‘flowers’ made and then stopped. I recently picked it back up, unassembled the flowers and am now putting them together randomly into one big quilt. I am liking how it is turning out and it looks vintage with the random placement and variety of fabrics. I love your choice of using a coordinated fabric….maybe my next one will be like that.

    1. Hi Robin:
I love that you went back to your project and reworked it into something you'll enjoy finishing. Feel free to send photos when you're finished (especially if you'd like me to share - with your permission, of course!). I'd love to see what your end project looks like!
      Thanks for the note!

  2. They would be pretty on a ground fabric.
    Love these.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
I'll start laying them on different backgrounds to see what I like. I'll share more soon.
      Thanks so much, hon.

    1. Hi Bonnie:
Looks like yours is the popular preference. I'm leaning that way, too.
      Thanks!

  4. Decisions, decisions! I know how you feel though because my hexies are in a time out at the moment while I contemplate what to do with them. I tried them scattered onto a king-sized background and didn't like it at all and now I'm still in a quandry what to do with them. They might just end up going to our quilt guild and letting another member figure it out. For me the fun was in making the hexies themselves. Putting them together? - not so much.

    1. Hi Maggie:
I love your generous heart. Whatever you decide should bring you joy. If you love making the hexies, but not the rest, I think that's a great decision! It's all about the enjoyment, after all.
      Big hugs,

    2. My thoughts exactly! I wanted to make hexies and I did. It was great fun and I loved every minute of it. BUT....now I can't come up with anything to actually DO with them. I don't need a quilt and my family don't want quilts, so I strongly suspect that once our guild opens up again they'll be going on the free table and hopefully bless someone else.

  5. I rather like Handsome’s idea of showing the actual flowers...like spaced down the center of a table runner or the edging of a pillow or ???. So many options and such a decision to be made.

    1. Hi Sherry:
I think everyone is leaning that way. Bonus is that I'll have a larger project with half the work! I like that idea. Thanks for weighing in!
      Happy Thursday, girlfriend.

  6. I think on a ground cloth to really highlight the floral design.

    1. Hi Ruth:
Thanks for the input. I think Handsome has a lot of support for this option. Thanks for letting me know what you think. When I look at the photo above, I'm inclined to agree. It is awfully busy with them all stacked together. I think they need breathing space, too.
      Thanks again!

  7. Agreeing with Handsome and all the others! I'm having a hard time seeing the flowers the way it is. :)
