Ruffles and Flourishes...

Who would have thought that, if you took this...
and then, attached this...
You'd get something as cool as this?
Miss Ellie has all kinds of bells and whistles, but this little attachment really takes the cake. I'd never used it before yesterday, but just couldn't get myself enthused about making ruffles the "old-fashioned" way. I decided to see if I get this ruffler attachment to work, and find out if it would actually save some time making ruffles. I figured there might be a learning curve, but my concerns were unfounded.

I put the mechanical foot on my machine and only had to spend about 10 minutes trying to find out what the different numbers on the foot meant. (Scrap fabric, change setting, run fabric through. Repeat through the four or five different number settings...) I was up and running in less than fifteen minutes. No more zigzag stitch over a length of pearl cotton to make gathers or ruffles such as these!

Handsome walked in while the machine was running, just in time to see the ruffles jumping off the back of the attachment. He muttered something about "dark magic" on his way out of the studio.

Kes Update: Thank you for all your kind comments and concern for Kes. We all appreciate hearing from you. Wednesday night was a rough one, with Handsome and me taking turns letting her out or cleaning up where she got "a little sick". The skies brightened on Thursday to a still-sore ol' girl, but when the sun set, she was getting back to her old self. She's getting a lot of sympathy and TLC around here, and didn't turn one little bit of it away. I'm sure she'll feel better by the hour and will be back to her old self very soon. Then, look out! I can hardly wait.

  2. "Dark magic", he's too funny! Sounds like my hubby.
The ruffles look wonderful! I wish I could sew, I honestly think I have a learning disability when it comes to this.

Prayers for sweet Kes! My pup has lost a couple of teeth this year, I sympathize!

  4. The ruffler attachment is awesome. I haven't used my sewing machine for any "real" sewing in quite some time but I used to avoid anything with ruffles because of what you mentioned in your post. It's great to know the attachment isn't too difficult to use.
    Thanks!

  5. We should fear meeting up with you in a dark alley at night... We are liable to get embroidered, or worse....! Is this what you do? Sewing Machines smothered in the Dark Arts? Too much Harry Potter nonsense going on at your house! I'll have to report you to Dumbledor... Will he listen to a mere Muggle like me?

  7. Hi Donna! I'm so happy your Kes is feeling more and more herself! It's so sad when our furry babies don't feel well. I'm sure Santa will bring her an extra goodie this year!... Love those ruffles! Hugs, =D

  8. I have just begun sewing again. I haven't touched a sewing machine since I was 16! Every experience is a new challenge. I get inspired by posts like yours today! Thanks!

  9. I'm glad that Kes is doing better. I used to have a ruffler! I loved it. It was probably much simpler than the ones today. Really easy to use and made the job so much easier! I don't do much sewing on machines any more. I'm more content with knitting needles and crochet hooks. Have a great weekend, Donna! Twyla

OMG I want one of those rufflers, do they make them for all machines? I have an old Janome, hmmmmm? I'll have to check into that. I love ruffles!!!
