This Happened Yesterday...

First Hickory Syrup Batch of 2021

When your BFF in Georgia asks for a dozen bottles of your homemade hickory syrup, you make time. When all was said and done (with Handsome's help), there were twenty bottles (plus a little extra for us).

I let them cool overnight, so I can shrink-seal and label them today. I'll also vacuum wrap these for their trip to Georgia, and get them in the mail today. I let my Facebook friends know, and will be packaging up another four bottles to go to other states, too. The other four are available for sale as well.

Today is bread making day (Handsome informed me "we're out"), and I have a custom order to sew. So, if you're wondering why I haven't listed up my wool kits or fabric yet, now you know why. I need a carbon copy of me to accomplish everything on my list.

Rather than lament my great good fortune to be blessed with endeavors that keep me more than a little occupied, I'm going to put my head down and keep chugging forward to the next task (or the last task I have yet to finish). I'll be making a list today...My October/November "To Do List". (Remember my craft show on November 21st?) Hold on to your hats. It's gonna get intense.

  2. I've never tasted hickory syrup but have to say those bottles do look good! I've never been a fan of hugely sweet things like maple syrup but do like a teeny little taste once in awhile. Really good over vanilla ice cream!

  3. Your Hickory Syrup looks very rich in color and the taste must be awesome. All things in their time dear. Your list will get done. As for Claudette and a heating pad or lamp I do not know the heating lamp. New heating pads have a shut off so they won’t work for a nice long night. We had an old one that stayed on and I put it between a wool blanket Sasha would lay on.

    1. Hi Sherry:
I'm still thinking about all of that. She's still coming on the porch at night. I haven't removed the chaise lounges there yet, nor have I put her bed in the barn. Her bed is foam sandwiched between fabric, with a thick fleece pad on the bottom. It's igloo shaped. As the nights got cooler, I took one of my little quilts, folded it in half, and then placed her igloo on half, folding the rest up and over the igloo. Then, I added one of the dog's clean quilts to fold over the top of it, and across the front opening. She's so smart. She goes around the quilt when she's ready for bed each night, and when I check on her, I place my hand inside to pet her for a bit. She curls up around my hand/arm, purring, and I can feel it's toasty warm inside. I'll continue monitoring the weather and her tolerance, and will relocate her to the barn soon enough so she's comfy. I really don't want to worry about a heat lamp, and I think one of my old heating pads stays on until I turn it off. I'll see if I can come up with another option. Either that, or her igloo will be seriously "layered" to keep her warm.
      Thanks for your thoughts.
      Hugs,
      xoxo
