Tuesdays With Tag - Chilly Toes...

Good Boy, Taggart

Hi, Everybody!

Well, the weather is a-changin', and it's makin' my feet cold. Mom chopped my toes over the weekend. She even drew blood! It was awful! I even bled on one toe for a few seconds! She said she was sorry, gave me a cookie, and stopped the bleedin', but she's still surprised when I try to tell her I hate having my toes chopped. DUH! At least she didn't trim the fur on my feet. That would be like sendin' me outside without socks or shoes on. I'd be hoppin' around in the frosty grass.

On a good note, she did do somethin' nice for somebody...the cat! Mom didn't cut Claudette's toes. Nooooo. She just saves that for the dogs around here. She and Dad took us to pick up hay from a local farmer, and then Boo, The Kid and I ran around the yard while Mom cleaned up the Compass Barn and set up real warm places for Claudette (and maybe Leo) to stay safe this winter. We were all really impressed.

The Girls and I might be envious if we didn't get to eat and sleep in the house, but we happened to hear a little bit of conversation between Mom and Dad. She said somethin' about the cat comin' in when it's really, really cold this winter. Dad said he wondered when the subject was gonna come up. He didn't say "no", but he didn't say "yes".

Mom said we'll wait to see how things go once the snow falls and it gets real cold. Claudette is happier outside, and Mom will make sure she's happy and fine if she stays in the barn. I sure hope so, 'cuz I'd be losin' sleep if she's in the house all the time! I think it would only take her a couple of days to establish herself as head of the house. UGH! Keep your paws crossed that we don't have to let her in for the winter. I don't even want to think about it!

I'll see you again in seven. 'til then...

  1. Hope your toes are better today Tag.
    Sometimes that happens.
I'm sure Claudette will be safe & warm in the barn seeing how your Mom takes care of her.

    1. Hi Miss Marilyn:
Thanks for the sympathy. I'm not limpin' or anythin', so that's a plus. It warmed up around here yesterday, and it's supposed to be nice 'til tomorrow (then rain), so puss is still sleepin' on the porch. Mom will make sure she gets moved to the barn by the time it starts to snow. She loves that stoopid cat.

  2. I'm sure Claudette will be warm in the barn but maybe you should discuss maybe setting up a heat lamp for her out there - that way she'd be toasty warm and you wouldn't have to worry about her taking your spot on that new couch. I grew up on a farm and we had baby pigs sometimes and my dad would get a heat lamp from the local feed store and set it up in one corner of their pen and they would sleep in there, all cozy and warm.

    1. Hi Miss MA:
Actually, Mom said somethin' about a heatin' pad for her bed, but she's overly cautious about causin' a fire hazard. She though maybe some of those heat package thingys that hunters stick in their socks or pockets might work, too? A heat lamp is a great idea. I'll tell her so she can look into that. Thanks!

    2. One more thing, Miss MA:
Where the cat(s) hang out in the barn is where Miss Shelly's dad used to raise pigs, too! A heat lamp there would be a little nostalgic! Smooches...T

    3. If you do go the heat lamp route, I wouldn't get one anyplace other than a feed store, just to be sure that it's certified as being safe for use in barns. My Dad always hung ours from a sturdy post above the pen and made sure he inspected the connections to clear out things like cobwebs on a regular basis.

  3. Poor Tag and your toe! I usually take my boys to the vet to have their nails cut just because I don’t want to do just that! The cat likes to swipe me with his occasionally, so I take great joy in cutting his nails. He has drawn blood a few times! I do like the idea from Magpie’s Mumblings about the heat lamp. Claudette might have some extra “friends” join her!

    1. Hi Miss Andrea:
I much prefer the vet ladies do my nails, but I need them cut almost every couple of weeks, and Mom says she's not takin' me there that often. She only cuts mine when she says I sound like "The Rockettes" walkin' across the wood floors. She thinks she's funny. Mom's gonna check out the heat lamp thing and probably use it. We thinks it's a great idea, too.

  4. So sorry about your toes Tag! But your Mom means well! We get our pups toes clipped at the vet because they are too wiggly! So glad your Mom takes care of all of you and Claudette too!

    1. Hi Miss Kelly:
Thanks for your sympathy. I don't get much around here. Mom said she saw a piece of hardware that hangs from hooks or in a doorway, and has a hammock-like sling that you slip a dog into. Their legs hang through openin's, and you can cut toes without wigglin'. Mom likes the idea. I hate it. I'd much rather take my chances wigglin' around. snort In her defense, she really does love us all, and does her best not to hurt any of us. (Between you and me, I do make it hard for her, 'cuz is fuss.)

  5. Tag you are not wrong about having your toes bleed and not liking it. I wouldn’t like it either. When I was young and in the hospital the nurses had to draw blood out of the tips of my toes and it hurt extra bad! I think Claudette will be cozy and warm with what mom and dad are setting up for her. Cats do have fur…however Sasha BooBoo kitty did have a nice warm heating pad when it was cold and she was our indoor kitty! Hold off Winter for a while please.

    1. Hi Miss Sherry:
Wow! I got the shivers just readin' that! I can't even imagine havin' to purposely give blood out your toes! You're really brave. I've give you personal smooches for bein' so grownup. I can't even imagine. Mom thought about a heatin' pad, or maybe a heat lamp like Miss MA suggested. Which one do you think might be safer in the barn? I think Mom should just knit her a body sweater. Wouldn't that be hilarious? bahahaha! I'd like to see that! We agree. Winter can start in January and be over by March, please.
