And, Then This...

The Farmhouse Smells Heavenly
All the hickory syrup I made Tuesday was sold by midday yesterday. It was all either shipped or picked up. Then, I made bread. Homemaking keeps me grounded, sane and happy.

I'm working on my list for the craft show. It's going to include hickory syrup this year. I'm going to make more on Saturday, but then I also need to build my inventory of wallets, handbags, and totes for my booth. I'm also adding fanny packs (I've heard them called "bum bags", too. lol) and backpacks this year, too.

Today, I'm going to list up some of those fabrics and kits I promised last week. I'm not going to let another day go by without doing that. Right after my coffee.

  1. ...currently drooling on my keyboard at the thought of a slice of that divine bread hot from the oven with a slathering of butter.... You have inspired me to pick up my pace a bit. (-: Appreciated your comment yesterday in regard to not lamenting the many things that needed to be done, but to view them as a blessing... it truly is a blessing to be needed and to have the ability to be industrious!

    1. Dearest Lois:
I wish I could have all my blog friends over for tea and warm, fresh bread. I'd actually love to teach what I know to others. It's really not a difficult process. (I did live videos making bread that are on Facebook) I need to upload them to my Brynwood YouTube and Rumble accounts, too. (lol another task.) I'm so glad my post touched you, and that you shared that with me.
      Take care,
      xo

  2. mmmmm - I'm drooling too!!! I don't think there's anything better than a slice of fresh bread straight from the oven, unless maybe it's the smell of anticipation as it cooks.

    1. Hi MA:
I'm giggling. I agree completely. It's so difficult not cutting into a loaf as soon as it's out of the oven. Handsome always says he has to worry about burning his nose. lol Once the dough hits the heat, the whole house starts to smell like bread, and my tummy starts grumbling. It's almost a Pavlovian response!

  3. Looks delicious! I used to make Amish bread ever so often, but I haven’t made any lately. I miss my oven at my old house. It had a proof setting that worked wonderfully. This oven I have now is an early 70’s double oven and has a tendency toward burning everything. Can’t wait for a new one. Not liking the prices if I can even find one in stock!

    1. Hi Andrea:
Amish bread sounds wonderful, too! I have a gas range with a gas oven. I didn't need or want lots of bells and whistles. This is a very basic, reliable range, and I love it. I had electric in Florida (and I hated it). I figured out that if I put the bread into a cold oven to proof and simply turn on the oven light, it creates just the right amount of heat to proof without being too warm. It works like a charm. Another secret is that I purchased the first 5-burner gas range we had here through FB Marketplace. It took me a week to clean it (it was really dirty), but it was worth it. I had it for four years before the igniter died, and it was going to cost over half the cost of a new range to repair. Check out Marketplace. You never know what might turn up. Good luck with your search.

  4. Oh for a slice of that for breakfast with jam and tea. And the kitchen background is just as beautiful as the bread. Those upper cabinets really look good.

    1. Hi Charlene:
Thanks for noting the background. I worked really hard painting the cabinetry and then getting it installed in our blank-slate kitchen. I love them and how they turned out. If you're ever in Wisconsin, you know you're welcome to knock on the "friends and family" door for a nice, long visit.
