A Few Random Thoughts...

Brynwood Needleworks - Taggart

I adore this boy. Truly.

Brynwood Needleworks - Fall Wreath

A new fall wreath to welcome visitors to the farm.
(I found this one on sale at Pier One.)

Brynwood Needleworks - Farm Wife Feet

I took this photo when I was in Florida. Don't ask why I'm wearing white anklets with my sandals. No. I haven't worn them in public...yet, but I think it's a very farm wife look. Now to find (or make) the dresses and aprons to complete the ensemble!

Thing is, when I put these socks and shoes on and looked down at them, I was instantly transported to my childhood. I remembered a lady named Bernice (Foerster) who lived near us. She always wore white anklets with her shoes (that looked like these). She wore her hair in a crown of tight, permed curls and I remember that she always had a smile on her face and a kind word. Thoughts of her stir happy thoughts for me.

I must have been only three or four years old, but I remember this lady to this very day. I guess it's true that people don't always remember what you say, but they never forget how you made them feel. I must keep this in mind as I go about my daily tasks. Bernice and her sweet demeanor will forever live in my memories.

  2. Love this random post. I adore your shoes...not sure about the white ankle socks though. The memories they bring you are priceless. I, too, shall choose JOY. Is my BLISS similar to JOY? Embracing Creative JOY...

  3. Oh I just think your socks look so cute with the sweet sandals and I agree with you that one will always remember how someone makes them feel and kindness is probably the most important thing to do. Joy is a wonderful thought for the day but sometimes hard if you are experiencing severe pain but if you try that's the main thing. Tag looks so sweet in the photo and my daughter requests I send her Tuesday with Tag every week as she loves him!

  4. What sweet memories. The sandals are cute. Mother wears white socks with her sandals also. Honestly, I have been known to as well, lol. Going to check your Etsy patterns. I adore those bunnies on the right sidebar.

  5. No truer words. I sometimes wonder at this world we are now living in. I even see the following claims on church signs...Happy, Happiness, How to find YOUR happiness. Where oh where is happiness ever promised in the Bible? Plus what does happiness give one? What a fleeting emotion. But JOY...oh I will take joy over being happy anytime! It is not an emotion. It is a state of being.
I know I have not been commenting very much, but I am still having a great deal of trouble sitting at the computer. The surgery was a success. As soon as I woke from it the pain from my spine collapsing on my leg nerves was gone. The pain from the surgery, that was a different story. This last week I was given the go ahead to start with PT. I was in PT before the surgery and really was not expecting PT to cause so much pain. The surgeon told me it was going to take me a year to get over this surgery. I didn't believe him. Now I do.
I am so enjoying all of the pictures of the farm!!!!!

  7. Choosing joy & smiles is easier than giving into frustration & madness of our current political situation. I love your shoes and your socks too. Excited to see more of your farm come together with the "Donna" touch. The color palette is perfect! Thank you for taking us all on your journey. This ole gal by the way wears mary janes and socks frequently or my polka dot tennis shoes. Giggles of joy for you Donna!

  9. Hi Patchworker!
Thanks for your note. I know my socks are geeky, but they're so comfy!

I'm so sorry to read that you're in pain. I'll say a prayer for you for healing, my dear. I hope you find relief soon.

Please tell your daughter that Tag says "Hi", and sends a smooch her way.

  10. Hi Danice:
My Etsy shop will open again in about a week. The bunnies at my pattern for "Harris - The Tweed Rabbit pincushion". They're not difficult to make and fun to have sitting on your sewing table or armchair next to your needlework.
    Be Well,

  11. Hi TerriSue:
I've been wondering how you're doing. I'm glad the surgery helped, but so sorry that you've got lingering pain. I can't even imagine how difficult things must be for you right now. I'll pray that the doctors are overestimating your healing time, and that you are pain-free much sooner than twelve months from now!
    Sending love and healing hugs,
    xo
