Summer Strawberries...

Sometimes, a smaller project - something that makes one smile - is just the perfect thing for a hot summer day. I love making ribbon embroidery roses into small strawberries, so I pulled out my supplies and thought making a few more would be fun.

Tiny stitches, scrumptious silk ribbon and verdant green threads all combine to create the designs that I make up as I go along. I don't draw out the pattern before I begin, I just start with the basic spiderweb for the roses and scatter on my fabric. After all the buds and flourishes have been added, I stitch the stems and leaves. When I'm finished with the stitching, I sew up the strawberry shape, stuff it and sew on the wool leaves. A simple project, really, but always a sense of accomplishment with the finished strawberry.

How do you spend your hot summer days? I'd love to hear what you're up to!

  4. Just beautiful Donna and a great little project for a summer day!
This year I have been trying to get to all the little (and not so little) projects that have accumulated over the years! This week I am starting to learn soldering for some little jewelery pieces I am making.....probably not a hot summer day project, but then I am rarely sensible!
    Have a wonderful Thursday!

  7. Gosh honey I sure have missed you!
These strawberries are just too pretty. I so wish we were neighbors so you could teach me how to do these.
Love the Corgi fairytale too on your previous post.
My summer has not been creative like yours but I have managed to read which like you I have enjoyed books since I was a little girl.
Since Christi is here it seems like all I do is keep Tinkerbell from slapping her cocker spaniel. After 6 weeks she still does not like the intrusion into her space.
Off today because of some stomach virus I picked up I guess when I went to the pain doctor Monday. Who else could get sick from going to a doctors office. lol
Sending you happy thoughts and much love

  9. Donna your stitches are just so perfect and beautiful. I used to embroider a lot in the 70's and not so much anymore. Now I am obsessed with learning how to tat as that is such a tiny craft that travels well. I am amazed at how frustrating string and my fingers can be! I am not giving up though. I wished I had learned from my Grandma's friends who tatted...especially since I am a visual learner and not one to follow written instructions so well. Mr. C even bought me a DVD with a book which only annoyed me more as I had to constantly pause the DVD and start over again. Happy stitching my dear...

  12. Donna, I so admire your stitching. Your strawberries are beautiful. I have been enjoying painting. Something I used to do but quit when I was working. Now that I stay home I rediscovered my love of it. I also just joined a giant granny square challenge. Twyla
