Cork Fabric and Notions

 

I'm working on a new bag for my shop (and myself!). I got everything cut out yesterday, but Handsome asked me for help with a project, so I changed course. One thing led to another, and I spent the entire day with him.

I'll be back in the studio today to work on it again. I'll put my blinders on so I don't get sidetracked again. We'll just wait and see how that works out.

My Next Project...

Farm Apron

 

When Jacque and I were at Royce Quilting in West Bend this week, I found something I wanted to make for homekeeping here at the farm. I saw this apron pattern and immediately found exactly the fabric I wanted to use.

All this canning I've been doing, I sure didn't want a white apron. I found this beautiful floral fabric for the main body of the apron. Then I saw the gold, leafy fabric that I thought would make a pretty contrast fabric for the trim and straps. 

This is the project I'll make after I finish the baby bag. It was almost done by the end of the day yesterday, so I'll definitely finish it today. I won't show you photos until after the baby shower on Sunday...just in case a certain mama happens to check my post today. I'm not giving it away, Heather. (giggle) You'll have to wait until Sunday!

Handsome and I are praying for the safety of all our friends and family in Florida. We've spoken or corresponded with many of those who hold our hearts in the south, and they'll be on our minds until we know they're safe after the storm. May God hold all of them - and any you hold dear who are also in harm's way - in the protection of His arms.

Coffee Break...

 Our Coffee Club always exhanges gifts over the Christmas holiday. I received

some really lovely and thoughtful things last year and appreciate every one. As

I was looking through my "stash", I came across the one I received from Flo.

 I wear aprons whenever I'm cooking in the kitchen, and this was a perfect

gift from a thoughtful friend. I pulled a couple of my favorite twill tapes

and decided that I'm going to make my apron from Flo this week. 

Once it's finished, I'll show it to the girls and then I'll put it on the hook in 

the kitchen. Each time reach for it and put it on, I'll remember our friend.

A Vintage Surprise...

Last night at Books a Million with our knitting group, my friend Tammy presented me with a bag of goodies. "For me?", said I. She assured me that it was.

I opened the bag to find pieces of wonderful vintage fabric and three vintage patterns! She knows how I adore such things. Two of the patterns were for aprons. (She hit one out of the park with these!)

McCalls Pattern 1713 (in front) was printed in 1952, and McCalls Pattern 2038 (the one behind it) was printed in 1956! All the apron styles in these two patterns each take less than two yards.

The fabric Tammy gave me had pieces of cotton with blue flowers and colorful teapots, and pieces in yellow and white gingham. There were many others, but these really caught my eye. I looked at Tammy and again asked, "Really? For me?" and she again assured me that they were.

What a wonderful surprise from a good and dear friend. I can't wait to get into the studio to make up an apron or two, and use some of this great fabric in one of my next creations. Thank you, Tammy, from the bottom of my heart for your generosity. And for thinking of me when you saw these things.
