A Little More...

A morning guild meeting, followed by a few errands and
most of my day was spent. When I got settled back home, I went to the
studio and spent a few more hours working on the my applique' block.

I placed my Sharpie marker in the frame to give you an idea of scale.
The finished blocks are all 15" square. and will eventually be transferred
to the fabric, but all the layouts are worked out on the paper pattern first.

Here's a little closer look for you.
I chose some of my favorite Wisconsin things, and will do a bit of
improv "on the fly". I've decided it needs some acorns in there, too,
so I'll change out some of the elements to fit them in with the oak leaves.

When I adapted this block for our quilt, I wanted our state bird - the robin,
a badger, violets and those beautiful orange lilies and purple coneflowers
that grace the roadsides all summer long. I know that it's the dairy state,
but I didn't want to add any more "critters", so I stuck with this design.

I've found that I'm really adept at making the small circles!
The ones you can see are all 1/2" circles. Cool, huh?
This is going really well, and I can see meeting my goal to have
the layout all finished by our guild meeting next Tuesday night.
If I can do it, I know the rest of those talented quilters can, too.

You know, it's good to set goals for ourselves from time to time.
Have you set or chased a goal lately?
I'd love to hear all about it.

Hi Donna, I like your progress and am looking forward to seeing it when you get it done. I have set a date to finish a quilt I am working on and I hope to finish by then. It is the only way I get things done at times. Have a great day. Hugs Your Missouri Friend

This looks wonderful Donna. I am enjoying your progression of putting the pieces together. I'm about to start an applique piece that is somewhat like that and am still trying to figure out exactly how to do it. Yours is giving me a good idea of what I'm going to be facing. Anyway, I love how this is coming together!

I saw the oak leaves in your previous post and wondered where the acorns were. You haven't disappointed me. Mr. Badger is looking very dashing as is your robin. It is certainly coming together nicely.

Just beautiful Donna! Maybe when you're done you can teach us how to do this :) My goal right now? Putting my sewing room back together by mid next week. Crossing my fingers! :)
