Sunday Scripture...

I went looking for scripture to support seeing our beloved pets again in Heaven. I believe that we will be reunited - not only with all the loved ones who went before - but also with all of the pets who made our lives joyful here on earth.

"The Bible does not give a definitive answer on the question of whether we will see our pets in heaven, but it does say, "... with God, all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)" That's good enough for me. I found also this story to share with you.

I like the story about the elderly widow whose beloved little dog died after fifteen faithful years. Distraught, she went to her pastor.

"Parson," she said, tears streaming down her cheeks, "the vicar said animals have no souls. My darling little dog Fluffy has died. Does that mean I won’t see her again in Heaven?"

"Madam," said the old priest, "God, in his great love and wisdom has created Heaven to be a place of perfect happiness. I am sure that if you need your little dog to complete your happiness, you will find her there." (Jack Zavada Click here to read his article on the subject.)

I hope your Sunday is filled with happiness, rest and the company of those you love - be they people or pets - they make our lives whole.

I think Fez will be there, wondering what the heck took ya so long!

  5. Donna your story reminded me of something that happened years ago. We were visiting Scotland with our Red Setter. We went to a museum but they would not let us in with her so we each went in separate to have a look around. We then went to a small church, my hubby stood outside with our dog and I was going in on my own, the Vicar said "come in come in bring the dog with you"..I was so amazed that she was allowed in church but not in a museum, the Vicar said "why should she not be allowed in, she is one of God's creations just like you" I really hope that I will see all the people I love, including my dogs.

  7. As others have said, Fez is probably waiting for you. In the meantime, he is a pet angel for a dear angel child. Those images were so comforting when our son was small, and a beloved pet was lost. If we were no longer able to love it on earth, he was comforted in knowing it was someone's pet in Heaven. St. Francis of Assissi was extremely fond of animals. Many churches, especially Episcopal, celebrate his feast day with the blessing of pets. God loves all creatures - furry or not, two or four footed.
    Happy Sunday!

  9. Beautiful post Donna. Heaven is not possible without our furbabies. I'm just glad my mum will be there to help as my group will be ample & we know how hard it is to herd cats. Thank you. Tracee xx

  10. Oh Donna~
I do believe too that our precious furbabies will be there waiting for us. We lost our sweet KittyBoy in Nov 2008 and he was the first pet that we had lost. I was devastated and still miss him.
My heart goes out to you.

    Wishing you a restful Sunday....

    Hugs,
    Lynn♥

  11. Our hearts may be heavy when we lose our beloved pets, but they like human losses, are carried lovingly in our hearts & minds forever. I trust in my mind & heart that god will reunite each of us with all our treasured loves from our lifetime.

Your crocheting is absolutely awesome, Donna. So love the color choices ... just beautiful.

Know that prayers continue for you in your healing.

    Love you.

    Have a beautiful Sun-day!

  13. I've never believed that animals have no souls. I think that little idea came from man, not God. It's the same thinking that interprets our 'dominance' over animals as an excuse to hunt and slaughter them.

Personally, I think that one only has to look in the eyes of an animal to know there is a soul, an energy that lives forever.

I believe that our pets never die and that they will be with us forever, my friend.

  15. This is a lovely post. Fezzik will definitely be reunited with you as he knew you to be the best mommy in the world. None of us knows the "master plan" that is our destiny. All the more reason to live fully and faithfully and enjoy every moment we can while we are here. May you have a day of peaceful relaxation...

  16. Hi Donna
Well that's always the question for pet lovers, isn't it. I was raised Catholic and was told that animals did not have a soul so they would not be in Heaven. When I was a VERY young girl I knew and loved our parish priest. He interpreted things a little differently that most. Many of my beliefs today come from the answers he had for my questions. I think that pets have a spirit that lives on and we WILL be reunited with them in some other realm. Possibly I believe that for just the same reason stated in the Parable.
    Much Love

  17. A lovely and comforting message, Donna We have churches here in our city that have an annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony. One year we took our sweet dog Tilly ( Matilda- who we lost suddenly in 2007) to Christ Church Cathedral. The service was just beautiful, there were dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, sheep, a donkey and even a little boy with his goldfish bowl. At the end of the service, everyone proceeded in line to the altar for their pet to be blessed. Why would God deny animals a place in Heaven? after all He created them., and I believe that animals DO have a soul, a pure and loving one. And DOG is GOD spelled backwards. :) hugs from Sandy.

  18. I don't know about Heaven, but His word does say the Lamb will lay down with the Lion...I think that's during the thousand year reign...so one might believe that there will be animals in Heaven, including our precious pets.

  23. Hello Donna,
My sincere condolences on the loss of your dear friend Fezzik. Below is a verse that reassured me when I lost my boy Walter a few years ago. I hope it helps your heart to heal.
