Gifts From The UK...

I was so surprised when Andrea from Indigo Blue contacted me to say that I'd won her generous "Royal Wedding Giveaway" the end of April. She lives in Cornwall, UK, and had this giveaway for anyone who lives outside Great Britain.

She included lots of memorabilia from the latest Royal wedding - that of William and Katherine. I opened the package when it arrived yesterday to find the commemorative Royal wedding souvenir album; four sets of stickers; a wedding day copy of The Daily Mail (which I read online every day!); a British flag (I love it!); a mechanical pencil with the Union Jack on it; and a red, white and blue crocheted flower pin created by Andrea. I especially like the large official family photo. The children, with all their unique expressions just warms one's heart. Handsome immediately held up the flag and waved it back and forth as I stood at attention and gave it my best Benny Hill salute!
Inside the souvenir album were photos of other members of the Royal family, and a now-famous image of the newlyweds sharing the traditional "balcony kiss".
There were also photos of some of the hats worn by the ladies in attendance, including that truly vile (you agree, right?) hat worn by Princess Beatrice. What on earth was she thinking? Bloody hell!
I smiled as I came to the section with pictures of previous Royal brides (and the crowns they wore for their weddings), including Queen Elizabeth II. She certainly was a beautiful bride.

Did you know that I was born in England? Although I've never been back to visit, I still have family there and thoroughly enjoy all things British - except digestive biscuits and tripe. (Top Gear and Keeping Up Appearances crack me up!)

Thank you, Andrea for all your generous giveaway gifts. I'm going to read every word of the news pieces you've sent, enjoy every image, keep the flag out to enjoy, and then I'll tuck it all away to share with my granddaughters some day. Rule Britannia and long live the Queen!

PS. Remember, you can always click on my photographs to enlarge them. Who wouldn't want to see that hideous hat up close, after all? lol

  3. Hi Donna, my fellow Brit!! What a lovely giveaway. The British do know how to throw a party. I now live in France so it's easy for me to pop over to see my Family and friends. I totally agree with you about tripe (though I don't think you see it as much these days) but how can you not like digestive biscuits!?!?!?!? Chocolate digestive are my favourites, oh and Cadbury of course.

  9. Miss Donna how did I miss that info.. because I transplant from England... I had my mother in Law sent me the daily mail... I loved reading it because it didn't pull anY punches about the hats and how some of the guests were dressed... some one should have told Princess Beatrice that the hat was so wrong.. My mum had a big knees up on the day i was sorry I wasn't there but I watched ,had my large mug full of tea, had scones.. so it was almost as good as being home... and as for the Digestives i'm with you. I like rich tea biscuits..have a great day Hugs wendy

  11. How interesting that you were born in England. This gift box you received is a wonderful treasure. How interesting and collectible. I too love to watch Top Gear. I don't know the other show. Yes it was a hideous hat and garnered way too much attention. Happy reading...

  12. Hi Donna, I am playing catchup tonight being I can actually leave a comment and not just get to read. I am learning more about you my friend and enjoy every minute of it. I watched the wedding in the evening when they did a rerun. My hubby watched it starting early morning. I thought her gown was so pretty. I don't know if I want to use the word simple, but it was such an enjoyment to see a gown like it once more. Have a great weekend Hugs Your Missouri Friend

  14. Hi,
Glad that the parcel arrived safely. I live in Cornwall on the west coast of the UK. Not sussex. Sussex is on the east just below London on the UK map. It may have a Sussex post stamp from the post office depot nearest the airport dealing with airmail for the US.

  15. Opps I forgot to say that Princess Beatrice is auctioning her hat for charity on Ebay and as of today the bids are up to £50,000. Not bad for a dodgey looking hat. All in a good cause though, in the end.
    xx
