My Day Took A Turn...

I had the best intentions to work on the wedding gown yesterday, but alas, I just didn't have the concentration for sewing. You know, some days are just like that!

Instead, I spent part of the day preparing our traditional Good Friday meal. You see, I'm Methodist, and we have no real constraints on food choices during Lent (except those we choose), but growing up, my mum decided that we would make a personal sacrifice on Good Friday's and eat seafood or fish instead of meat. It's a tradition I've followed all my life. So, our traditional meal is homemade shrimp salad as the entree' for dinner. (Mum also likes her British hot cross buns, but I'm not a fan.)

I used large cooked shrimp, added chopped onion, celery and sweet peas. When the bowtie pasta had cooked and cooled, I mixed in with the shrimp mixture and my favorite Southern mayonnaise (Duke's - no sugar added!). I seasoned with salt and pepper and put it in the fridge until dinner time.

This year, Handsome also made homemade French bread. It came off the baking stone golden brown, crusty outside and soft inside. I really contemplated taking photographs of our meal, but decided not to this time.

The rest of my day was spent knitting. I told you how much I loved making the sleeves on my green cotton sweater, so I decided to work on a new sweater...sleeves first!

This time, I went to my yarn stash and chose a soft, grey white bamboo yarn called Bonsai (color: Tofu) from Berroco. The bamboo is wrapped in nylon, which gives it a very subtle shiny thread that makes the yarn look elegant. The photo on the left from Berroco, and their color swatch is just what I'm working with. This yarn can be purchased from Jimmy Beans Wool online. I got mine about 2 months ago from The Spinning Wheel in Sarasota, and my friend, Klara.

Today, I'm going to visit my favorite "everything" store (Target) for a few things, and then see where my muse carries me for the rest of the day. Perhaps I'll sew or perhaps I'll knit. I know I'll just enjoy this beautiful Easter weekend with Handsome and Kes.

  8. That yarn is yummy and so is your progress! We never had any traditions growing up - maybe ham, but I married a Polish man so his family goes all out. It's yummy and best thing - I don't have to cook it!

    Have a wonderful Easter.

  10. I am like you and some days I just want a change of scenery as I put it. I don't know if I want to finish the baby blanket I am working on because the little one has come early and only weighs one pound and seven ounces. I am praying for them because it is the first child and is a little boy. It is very hard on them. I think I will finish it, but just not work on it at the present time. Have a wonderful Easter weekend.
