Sunday was a relaxing day spent cooking, and knitting while watching NASCAR (yeah, I know...but I like it!). One of the delicious surprises was making the Cranberry Cake Mix that I won in Debra's 200th Follower Giveaway over at Common Ground last month. Remember? What a wonderful assortment of beautiful items. She's my inspiration for giveaway generosity.
Yesterday, I unwrapped the package and released the beautiful turkey flour sack kitchen towel that enveloped the cake mix. Then, following the directions (I'm really good at that!), I assembled the ingredients and mixed up the cake. It baked away while I prepared dinner.
After dinner each evening, Handsome and I do kitchen cleanup together. He's an excellent cook in his own right, and after twenty eight years of practice, we work together well. Cleanup is not usually too bad because I learned to "clean as I go" from Mum when I was a kid. Handsome must have learned the same from my mother-in-law because he doesn't like a messy workspace either. So, last night after tidying up the kitchen, we rewarded ourselves with a piece of Cranberry Cake, topped with whipped cream.
I wish you'd been here to sample this dessert, courtesy of sweet Debra. The mix is manufactured for Mary Lake-Thompson, Ltd. in California. I don't know where Debra found this lovely mix, wrapped in a tea towel I'll use and cherish, but I hope you'll be able to find some (and that I might be able to find more!). Debra, if you'll share your source, I'd be so grateful.

Hi Donna, I'm so glad the cranberry mix turned out well! I purchased it at one of my favorite stores "Inspirational Home" here in Springfield. Maybe an internet search would turn up a website to buy it. I just fell in love with that turkey towel! You have a great guy that will help you clean up. Now you have made me hungry!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Debra
That cake looks so good! I'm a NASCAR babe, too. My husband's and my first dates were to the stock car races. Happy memories. Twyla
ReplyDeleteOh how yummy! Love the turkey towel. Great to see two true soul mates who enjoy each other! Say Hi to Handsome for me...Love, LAE
ReplyDeleteThe cake sounds yummy....and I'm thinking "How to I get my hubby to help with kitchen clean-up"

I am glad you can share time in the kitchen with your handsome,,I think men "should" get in on the fun! It can be a good quiet time for a chat.

How wonderful to have a husband who cleans as he goes! My dad was like that. In fact, he was usually putting things away in the kitchen before my mom had even used them. Chris has his specific jobs after dinner - namely putting away leftovers, and sometimes loading a few things into the dishwasher - but most of that is my job.
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks soooooo good. I am sending my DH to get training with Handsome. He really is not that bad at cleaning yp but we could tweak a few points. LOL Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Warmly, Sharon
ReplyDeleteOoooo yummy! I would loved to have joined you. NASCAR is on in our house too. ;)

Haha, your post made me laugh - I made dinner tonight for my family and the mother in law, who is visiting.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a clean-when-I-have-time kind of cook, which makes my husband very tense ("why can't you put the box of flour back on the shelf the moment you're done using it?" - well, I don't know if I'm done using it just yet, it's an improvised recipe!)...
I still reward myself with some chocolate, though, cooking is as much work as cleaning!
I've posted your xmas ornament today, by the way, it is supposed to get to you in a week or so...
what a great giftie..and yummy dessert. I need to see if I can come up with a 200th post giveaway..I like this idea myself..what could I share...ummm...will have to ponder this..the posts rack up so fast for me... Enjoy your treat with your handsome Donna..
