It's A Stitch Guild 2019 Quilt Show...

Brynwood Needleworks - Pictorial Quilt Category

Kathy D. and I went to the It's A Stitch Quilt Guild 2019 Quilt Show yesterday. Kathy had five quilts entered in the show, and you know I entered my "Song of Spring" quilt, too.

Today, I'm just going to show you the ribbon winners for the category I entered. Actually, I'd entered the "Miniature Quilts" category, but mine was moved to "Pictorial Quilts". I was fine with that, as my center block really didn't quality as a "miniature".

I was thrilled to see that I'd earned a third place ribbon to add to my wall! The quilts that were entered in this category were really wonderful, and at least twice as large as mine. Each was beautiful in its own right, and I'm very satisfied with my placement.

I want to give Kathy and the other quilts I photographed center stage on a separate post, so on Wednesday, I'll have one more post with lots of pictures. I just had to do a little crowing and share my excitement with you first. By the way, Kathy entered five quilts, and every one of them earned a ribbon! I can't wait to show you what they look like. (She's my hero!)

We're off to another busy week. I'll let Tag tell you how he's doing since he got back home from camp. Sometimes I can only smile and shake my head. See you Wednesday!

"Song of Spring" Is Finished...

I completed my "Song of Spring" quilt around 9:30 last night. All the quilting was completed during the day; and the binding was attached and hand sewn. Then I added a sleeve and label to the back. It's officially finished!

This is the entire finished piece, measuring approximately 20" x 19". When it comes back from the quilt show, it will hang up in the farmhouse.

I created the label in Adobe Photoshop Elements™, and then printed it out onto fabric. I added a fabric border and hand sewed it to the back of the quilt.

Today, I'm taking it to Kathy D.'s house. I'll be in Florida on the days we have to turn our quilts in for the show, which will be held on May 4-5, so Kathy graciously offered to turn mine in for me. We have to turn them in next weekend, ahead of the show. As she's leaving for a trip on Monday, and I leave before she gets back home, we agreed that I would drop mine off with her before she leaves.

I'm going to relax the rest of the weekend, spending time with family. I'll be getting ready for my trip next week, but I'll tell you more about that later.

Quilt Top Finished...

Brynwood Needleworks - Completed Quilt Top

 

I finished piecing and embellishing my "Song of Spring" quilt top yesterday. I added leaves to the corners of the center block, as well as on corner blocks at the intersections of the half-square triangle block rows. I also added one more border than originally planned to put a frame around them.

I chose this feather fabric from Loni Rossi for the backing. I've bordered it with the check that you see at the bottom of the image. So, what do you think? So far, so good? I'm entering it in the same quilt show where my "Posy, the Patchwork Pachyderm" took a second. (It's a tough audience.)

 

Today, I'm having lunch with Mom Grace's daughter, Deb. After lunch, I'm going to sit down to do the final quilting. I originally had this brilliant idea to make this my first hand quilted piece. After stitching (and unstitching) multiple times, I've decided not to torture myself further. I'm going to machine quilt it this afternoon, and then bind it. Once that's done, I'll add the display sleeve, and it will be ready for the quilt show. I'll share the finished piece as soon as it's all done.

Revealed...

Brynwood Needleworks - Completed Embroidery and Fabric Choices

 

I completed the robin's nest embroidery on Saturday, which led to my starting on the next phase of my project. I can tell you now that I'm creating a quilted wall hanging to enter in an upcoming quilt show.

Handsome has been watching my progress, and he's named it for me..."Song of Spring". As I want the embroidery to be the most prominent feature, I chose fabrics that were more muted.

I've already created the half-square triangles that will be my block border. I'm using the grey plaid and rust-colored print fabric for straight sashing to frame the embroidery. I won't cut my embroidered panel until I do all the math, but I know that, as I'm entering it in the "Miniature Quilt" category, it needs to be under 26" square. That won't be a problem at all.

I'll probably have the top completed when I post again on Wednesday. Tag's up tomorrow. He's such a hoot. He makes me laugh every day. I'm as interested to see what he has to say as you are. Time to sew! See you later.

Three New Ribbons...

For The Love Of A Corgi - D. Liljegren

  I showed three pieces at the It's A Stitch Quilt Guild Show this past weekend. I'm so grateful to have received a ribbon on every piece I entered. "For The Love Of A Corgi" earned an Honorable Mention ribbon.  

Over The River - My Way. D. Liljegren

"Over The River - My Way" faced heavy competition. I was pleased to receive a Third Place ribbon for my efforts. The annual quilt show is held by the It's A Stitch quilt guild, and they have quite a few talented members, and other entrants. They ask that photos not be taken of other members' quilts, so I won't share the second and first place pieces. (They were beautiful, and definitely worthy of the ribbons they earned.)

 

Posey, The Patchwork Pachyderm - D. Liljegren

 

Last, but certainly not least, "Posey, The Patchwork Pachyderm" earned another second place win. The beautiful, curvy table runner (vertical, on the far left) won the first place ribbon. 

I was asked (more than once) which pattern I used for my sweet elephant. I smiled and explained that I had drafted the pattern for her, and that she was completely my own design. She was definitely a hit with the attendees.

This is my first Wisconsin show. I'll definitely enter this one again next spring. Posey may compete in another Wisconsin venue in September, but I'll be entering a few other new pieces by then, too. (I just have to get busy and sew!!)

My pal, Kathy entered eight pieces, only having seven judged. She won a ribbon on every piece that went for judging, and she even placed "in the money" with one of her gorgeous quilts. Thankfully, we didn't compete against each other in a single category.

All in all, I'd say we had a pretty darned successful weekend!

Quilt Show Weekend...

"Over The River - My Way" Created By Donna Liljegren

This is what I teased about earlier in the week. I've entered three of my pieces, including my "Over The River - My Way" quilt in the show. (This photo is from our Disconnected Piecers show in 2016.) I also entered Posey, The Patchwork Pachyderm; and my "For The Love Of A Corgi" wallhanging (seen above in my blog banner).

Kathy D. and I took our quilts to their facility last Sunday, and they were judged on Tuesday. We'll find out the judging results when we get to the quilt show.

If you're in the area, you might want to add the quilt show to your agenda. I'm looking forward to seeing the show, too (my first time this year). I hadn't known of it before, but entered a few pieces when Kathy asked me if I was going to. I've seen her seven entries, and between you and me...I'm glad we're not competing against each other! 

Of course, I'll share photos of the show, so even if you're not local, you can see a little bit of their event, and some of the other pieces that were displayed. I'm looking forward to it!
