Taking Time...

Verse from Life Is Simply Bliss

Yesterday could have been an easy work day, as it was relatively quiet at the station. However, I was training a new cashier. That means, not only am I attentive to the customers, but also helping the trainee at the same time. Thankfully, my boss closed out the till with her at the end of the day, so I didn't have to go downstairs to help with that part. By the end of my shift, I was ready to go home.

Once back at the farmhouse, I went upstairs and changed out of my work clothes, put on something comfy and warm and made a cup of tea to relax. It must have worked well, because in no time, I'd fallen asleep in my chair. So much for actually accomplishing anything once I got home. It was a quiet night, and I turned in early (for this night owl).

My niece/goddaughter, Jen is coming today. She's traveling with her boyfriend who we've yet to meet. She told me that this introduction would usually have been with her mom, but since my sister, Lyn passed in 2023, she coming to me instead. I told her it would be an honor for me, so they'll be coming for brunch mid-morning. I'm looking forward to meeting her beau, and I'm sure I'll find myself "talking" with my sister about them during my evening prayers.

I plan to take it easy the rest of the weekend, spending time with Handsome. I also see some needle dancing in my immediate future. I'll be thinking of my dad this Father's Day, too. I hope you have a peaceful weekend.

Guitar Man...

Brynwood Needleworks - "Guitar Man" Embroidery

Destiny and I got busy with a new Retreat Bag project yesterday. I'm calling this one, "Guitar Man" based on the embroidery.

Brynwood Needleworks - Destiny working on "Guitar Man"

This Retreat Bag is already spoken for, and it was fun deciding on fabrics because I know who'll receive it. I've chosen a buttery-soft, black vinyl for the exterior, and a musical lining fabric to coordinate with the design "we" stitched out on the front.

The embroidery is finished, and all ll the parts and pieces are cut, prepped and ready to sew together. I stopped so I could to get to Paneras last night, but the rains were keeping our other ladies home. I picked up a loaf of bread, grabbed a soup and latte' to take home, and was back almost before Handsome and the pups knew I was gone!

Today is Nifty 50s, so rather than lug my machine and tack in the rain, I'll set up some new pincushions. My shop has been biiiiiizzzzeeeee, so I need to restock. I'm going to add some Daddy-themed Retreat Bags in time for Father's Day giving, too! I hope to list those up on Thursday or Friday, leaving plenty of time for Priority postage to deliver for gift giving.

Gotta run. Time for another working "play date"!

Sunday Scripture - Happy Father's Day...

One of my favorite pictures of Handsome and our sons. 2009
"The father of a righteous man has great joy;
he who has a wise son delights in him."

Always Room For A New Idea...

All of these treasures have been packed away for now. They're patiently waiting for their new home.

I have a reason for showing them to you today, though. See the beautiful, brass acorn in the center? It's a vintage cigarette lighter. Recently, I posted a link on my Brynwood Facebook page that caught my eye. It's a link to a tutorial on Todolwen by a blogger names Karen B.

What she did with a vintage strawberry cigarette lighter is genius...and after we've moved and settled into our new home, I'm going to do something on the same order with my vintage acorn.

Here's the link to her tutorial.
I especially love the little ruffle and blossom she added to her design. I'll be contemplating what embellishments I might use to make mine a little sweeter, too.

Karen has no idea that I'm sharing her tutorial here today, so if you leave a comment for her, I'd appreciate it if you mentioned I sent you.

This is Father's Day weekend, so I'm going to be pampering the best Dad I know...my Handsome husband. I'll spend a little time in the studio, but I've got  a few special things planned to show him how much he's loved and appreciated.

If your Dad isn't around anymore, I hope you have someone in your life that you will pamper. How about a cookout? You can enjoy the weather and celebrate fathers.

Happy Father's Day Weekend.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there...
and especially to the three most important dads in my life.
l-r: Son #2, Handsome and Son #1
You are the best examples I know of in how to be loving,
compassionate men who guide their children to the light.
I love you with all my heart.
Happy Father's Day.

Making Yummy Noises...

Yesterday began with a nice, heartwarming brunch for two...Handsome & me.
I wanted to make something I hadn't tried before, along with an old favorite.

We both love Hopple Popple (I shared the recipe with you here), so that dish
was a given for our Father's Day meal. We also had a fruit salad on the side,
with a chaser of real Florida orange juice. But, the new dish was a real hit!
I tried The Pioneer Woman's recipe for "Cinnamon Toast - The Right Way". Wow!
We raved about this recipe, but agreed that it was never meant to be an "everyday"
treat. It had just the right amount of everything and was so delicious, it was almost
like candy.  Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman herself) always hits a homerun!

If you want to try this recipe yourself, this is the link.
Just so you know, the recipe calls for 16 pieces of bread. We used 3 and I cut the
recipe appropriately. Good thing I did, too, 'cuz we might have eaten it all otherwise!
 One more thing today...
When I went to Craftsy yesterday, I had a great little surprise.
Seems that "Harris" was trending on Craftsy yesterday.
Isn't that saaa-weeet?

Tag can't wait to see you tomorrow. Have a great Monday!

Sunday Scripture - Father's Day...

Image by Ahrens Photography • Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
This year, I want to write about the best father I know...Handsome.
For the past thirty three years, I've watched him parent two sons who have
become loving, considerate and honest men. He makes it look easy.
Handsome with his brother 1957
If you knew more about his own parents and their lives growing up in
the Midwest, none of this would come as a surprise to you. His parents
provided him with all the tools, and they set a fine example for my husband.
Handsome with our two sons
He's never been stingy with affection, but likewise, he knows that
there are important values a father should pass to his children:
• Kindness, consideration and patience
• Respect for the rights of others
• Willingness to work hard toward a goal
• The value of an education
• The importance of listening
• Remembering to laugh
• Knowing the joy of having music in your life
• Love of the outdoors
• Faith in God
and
 • To be truthful and honest

A father who can teach these lessons by example is a fine man, indeed.
Grandpa Handsome and our grandchildren

We can already see understanding in our grandchildrens' eyes. We know that we have
done well in teaching our sons, and they are fostering this knowledge in their children.

It has been a joy for me to watch my husband interact with two young boys who have
become loving fathers in their own right. I've been honored to be a part of the heritage
my husband learned from his parents. and knowing that our values will be passed to our grandchildren makes for a life fulfilled. I know that our grandchildren will share this
legacy. We can see it already. He is the head of our family and we are blessed for it.
I love you, Husband.

Happy Father's Day to my husband and our sons.

I hope all of you are able to share Father's Day with your favorite father, too.

Nurture And Nature...

Father's Day was spent nurturing Handsome.
Time in the studio was not on the agenda.
Homemade lasagna was the meal request, and I was happy to oblige.
A trip for two to SweetScoops for ice cream cones after dinner.
The day was a treat for both of us.
When you keep your eyes open, you never know what you'll see.
What appeared to be a piece of bark near the pool, revealed a
caterpillar struggling to emerge from, without a doubt, the most
interesting cocoon I've ever seen. Sadly, when I went back to see
how it was progressing in its efforts to escape, I found that the
struggle had been too great, ending in its demise.

(Just so you know what you're looking at in the photo:
The actual caterpillar is the first three "segments" at the top
of the cocoon. It was white, with black markings and a little
brown on it. If you look closely, you can even see a tiny leg on
the left side of each segment. It was sooo close to freedom!)

I was so curious to know what this caterpillar would become.
Now, I'll never know.

Happy Father's Day...

Bryn's first litter. Bannor is the darkest puppy in the middle.
I hope you get to spend the day celebrating a special father in your life.
I'll share my day with Handsome,
grateful for our two sons and their families.
I'll also call Dad Burt later today to send him a long distance hug.
