September's classmate dinner was yesterday afternoon. Our smaller group was perfect for conversation and fellowship.
I worked an extra shift from 10 am until 2 pm, and it was a busy shift for me. The scheduled cook didn't show (or call in) so I was on my own. Not wanting to turn folks away for the lunch hour, I got busy.
Not only was I cashiering, but rather than turning away customers coming in for lunch, I told them our kitchen was closed except what could be cooked in our fryer. At one point, I had four occupied tables! I also kept our warmer stocked with "grab and go" food. Needless to say, my shift just flew by, and I was pleased that I could manage to salvage a lunch hour where our restaurant would have been otherwise closed.
The third shift cashier clocked in early, I balanced my till, changed out of my work clothes and drove to the restaurant for our dinner. Handsome stayed home this month, but I brought dinner for him home with me...including two pieces of "Fudgy Wudgy Chocolate Cake" (restaurant's name, not mine). All in all, I'd say it was a good day from start to finish.
Today is (mostly) a home day. I have a mid-day hair appointment, but otherwise I'll be at the farmhouse. I'm looking forward to it!
Happy October!

Glad you had a great, but busy day.
ReplyDeleteWhat will you work on today?
I have my last, hopefully, Ortho appt. today.
My machine is still in the shop, so I am working on other projects.
Marilyn
Hi Marilyn-
DeleteI hope your ortho appointment went well! I woke up to a message from the xo-worker who's acting manager right now. The morning shift didn't show at 4:30 (am) and she was alone. I didn't see her message until 8. I immediately suited up and got there to find the restaurant full of people waiting for food, our weekly delivery of chips/candy/cigs ready to be stocked, and my frazzled co-worker. She was so happy to see me. I had a hair appointment, so I could only stay until 11, but I took care of the front end, did a little cooking to help her, and emptied a lot of stock boxes before I left. She thanked me three different times before I left! I stopped for a few things at the grocery before I came home from my hair appt, and pretty much vegged the rest of the short afternoon. I may end up working tomorrow morning, too. I won't know until I get a text at 4 am! Sigh

Goodness, you exhaust me... I think I might have suggested fasting to those coming in for lunch. 😏 I always prefer smaller gatherings. Enjoy your day (mostly) at home today!
ReplyDeleteHi Lois-
DeleteAnd the hits just keep on coming. (Read my response to Marilyn above). It's been a busy week, for sure. I'm looking forward to the weekend!

What a way to end the month.
ReplyDeleteGreat save on the restaurant lunch hour.
Shirley
Hi Shirley-
DeleteThanks, dear. I should wear a cape. My co-worker thinks I'm a super hero this week! I'm feeling pretty accomplished...and a little tired.

Lunch with your friends was your reward for working so hard!
ReplyDeleteHi MA-
DeleteExactly! I was immediately relaxed on d I saw them. We're the family we choose.
