Bewitched...

(I was going to add "Bothered and Bewildered" to the title, but didn't want to have to pay a royalty.)
I asked questions. I did some online research. Then, I went shopping. I finally decided on what I'll be wearing to the wedding we're attending this weekend.

Remember, it's a Muslim wedding. I've never been to one, so I want to be sure that what I wear is in keeping with their tradition and respectful of their customs.

I know that it's customary for arms to be covered, and garments should not be revealing or fit too closely. I'm barefoot in these photographs, but I'll be wearing dark stockings and dark shoes. No ankles showing either.

The bride and groom have informed us that men will be in one hall, and women will be in the other. This was done so that the women would not have to wear hijabs (their head coverings) unless they choose to when the groom is in the women's hall. I'll take a scarf along and if the women cover their heads when he enters, I'll follow suit out of respect.
I actually love this outfit a lot and will likely wear it again for other occasions. That's not a necklace. It's beadwork on the front of the tunic. I usually don't wear black to weddings, but "when in Rome...".

When I first saw the second photo of me, I immediately thought "Endora (Samantha's Stephens mother) from Bewitched!" I forgot that her clothing was usually more colorful.

When I went looking for web images to show you what I meant, I realized that my outfit more closely resembles Samantha's garb! Lucky me!

We'll be at the wedding this weekend, and if cameras are allowed, you know I'll share! (If they're not, I'll ask the bride and groom to share a picture with me for you.)

So. What do you think? Please tell me this is going to work, because I don't know what I'll do if you don't like it.

  1. Hi Donna,

You certainly look beautiful in your dress. That is a very becoming style of dress and yep, you should plan to wear it again. I would get a black scarf to wear as well. Boy, I would really love to meet you...really like your style! Have a good time.

  13. You are beautiful and elegant and so very thoughtful of the traditions of cultures unlike our own. I adore your outfit and Bewitched. Often I have wished I could merely twitch my nose and voila! Enjoy and be comfortable above all else. You truly are stunning in this lovely outfit.

Is this the couple you made the peacock quilt for?
    Have a great day.

  15. I think that looks stunning. My first thought was much more Elizabeth Taylor than Endora but I do see what you were getting at with Samantha's outfits. I loved that programme when I was a kid. Used to spend hours trying to wiggle my nose. Enjoy the wedding. I'm sure it will be stunning, intersting and educational all in one.

  22. I haven't been in Blogland for over a week! So glad to come back and catch up. What a beautiful outfit for a very special lady...and it looks so comfy!
We will be attending a wedding tomorrow as well, and I chose a pair of crepe palazzo pants similar to yours. Yes, this is the wedding I made the flowers for, so the promised pictures will be coming very soon. You and handsome have a wonderful time at the wedding and we'll exchange stories soon.
