Tuxedo Strawberries...

A few months ago, my friend Tammy shared a few old magazines with me. I recently passed them on to one of our daughters-in-law, but not before scanning this little gem.

Those are Tuxedo Strawberries in the photograph. Aren't they adorable? Tammy gave me this specific magazine because she said she could envision me making these for a get-together with friends. She knows me pretty well, don't you think? They just make me smile - and the bonus is that they contain at least two of the major food groups (fruit and chocolate!). Add caffeine and we've covered just about everything!
If I remember correctly, the recipe came out of a Wisconsin Country Life magazine - which I really enjoyed. I thought they might be out of business, but found the company on the web. They're still printing and selling their great, down-home style magazine.

You should be able to enlarge the recipe enough to read and print it (just click on the picture). If you have trouble with the type size and can't read it, just let me know and I'll be happy to type it out for anyone who wants to make their own little dressed-up berries.

I just love little surprises like this for my friends. You're right, Tammy. I'll be making them for our Tuesday night Panera's group very soon!

  4. Those strawberries are so cute! Wouldn't they be great for a wedding reception or some other special event? Will have to show the picture to a friend who'd love them - or maybe even try to make them myself :)

  5. Hey Pretty Lady,

I made those years and years ago when I was in catering. I made wedding cakes and party cakes for about 13 years and occasionally had to make accompanying items like the tuxedo strawberries. They're not hard to do, just time consuming.....of course I made hundreds at a time....I don't think you'll be doing that. Try em with dark chocolate (dark Belgian or German chocolate). Personally I think German chocolate is the best, but it's because that's all I ate when I lived in Germany...LOL.

  6. These are so elegant and very tasty looking. Yours will be the hit of the party. In Sacramento California there is "Shari's Berries" and she does amazing things with chocolate covered strawberries. I would probably eat all the chocolate and not have any left for strawberries. *_*
