I spent the day working on a special gift for a special friend.
It's finished now, but I can't show you the whole
piece because I don't want to spoil the surprise.
Tiny silk roses, buds and hand stitched leaves.
Needlework ruffles and colonial knots for good measure.
A small token of friendship from my heart to hers.
It seems I always choose something made with my own two hands when I want to express appreciation, friendship or love. In a day and age when everything seems expendable, I choose to give a token that I hope will be held and remembered a long time from now...and that it will evoke
warmth in the heart of the person to whom the gift was given. Something that will be tucked away and saved, rather than tossed.
This weekend is going to be so much fun. I'll be telling you all about it after the fact, but I promise that I won't make you wait too long. Perhaps I'll just drop hints until then...
This is beautiful, Donna. Your friend will be deeply touched by this. It obviously has a lot of meaning to you and came from your beautiful heart. She's lucky to have you. : )
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time on your wild adventure...wherever it may be!
There is nothing more special than a gift from the heart. :) Yesterday, my penpal of twenty years, who lives in Texas, sent me some magazines that she knows I enjoy, but also a beautiful patchwork apron that she made especially for me, and I will treasure it forever! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. A handmade gift is so special. Your stitching, of course, is perfection.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear what the heck you are doing this weekend.
We are going to the Apple Festival...guess we'll be eating apple stuff ~lol~
But there will also be lots of great needlework to see in Nappannee Indiana, an Amish town.
Have a great weekend.
Just gorgeous needlework Donna! Your friend must be really special.

ReplyDeleteA gift from the heart is always the perfect gift! I too will make something when I want something special to give. I have a young friend that I make things for once ask me, "Why didn't you make --- something, like you always do for me?" I replied, "I make things for those, that I truly love."
ReplyDeleteI will be looking forward to seeing your gift from the heart!

ReplyDeleteLove the closeups of your needlework. I too enjoy giving handmade gifts if I can. They just have more meaning and really tell the recipient that you thought hard about the perfect thing to give them.
