Sweet 16...

I spent part of my day yesterday working on the Sweet 16 Challenge piece for our local quilt guild, Disconnected Piecers. This is the focal point of my piece, which is going to become a handbag/tote. I'll decide which as I get further along in the project today. Oh, yes. The guild meeting is tonight. What can I say? I was a little distracted over the weekend.

The theme for the Sweet 16 Challenge is to take a song from the year you turned 16 and translate it into a 36" x 36" quilt, a handbag or a tote. I turned 16 in 1970 (sigh). Those were the days!
The participants in the challenge will be able to guess at the song for each of the other participants. Do you think you can guess mine? I'll show you the finished piece and reveal the song that inspired it tomorrow.
Before I run off and finish my entry in the challenge, I want to say "Happy Birthday" to my sister, Diana. This is a photo taken of me with all of my younger sisters a couple of years ago. (I'm the oldest of all 5 of my siblings.) Top to bottom, eldest to youngest: me, Lyn, Diana (Miss Snoopy Pants, the Birthday Girl!) and Jan.

Diana is a sister, mom to a daughter and son, and grandma to three sweet boys. I guess it doesn't matter how old she gets...
She'll always be this little girl to me.
Happy Birthday, Di!
I hope you have a wonderful day, and
that all of your dreams come true.

  1. If I were to guess looking at your quilt photo, I would say "House of the Rising Sun".

Happy Birthday to your little sis!!!

  2. Gosh, I'm good because I was thinking the Animals song too, which surprised me since I would have thought you would be drawn more to mellower performers.

Nice post about your sis too.

  3. I was wondering if you were going to have time to get to that project with all the chaos over the weekend. I love it!
    Happy birthday to sis!

  4. Beautiful family !
Well House of the Rising Sun sounds good but it came out in the 1960's. I can't think of one song from the 70's ... so I will be interested to see which one it is.

  7. This is such a great picture of you and your sisters. Happy birthdays are always fun to celebrate. Love the quilt/purse/tote. I am no good with songs or words or years but I think "House of the Rising Sun" is perfect that others have guessed.
Happy day to you and yours...

  8. Hey special lady,

What a neat project, but for the life of me I can't figure out the song. All I keep thinking is "our house is in the middle of our street." I know I'm wrong.

What a lovely bunch of ladies, and happy belated birthday to your sister, too!

    Hugs,
    Meri
