I've acquired a few little spools for my spool animal projects. These two jars are loaded with them!! I put Otis in front of them so you have a size comparison. I'll be able to populate Noah's Ark with all the little animals I'll be able to create!
So, here's my thinking...There are only so many spoolies that will fit on my shelf, and after I complete all my first attempts (thinking prototypes), I could make more available for sale through my blog. I wouldn't list these on Etsy, only here. I could do oh, say, ten at a time and list them once a month or something. What do you think of that idea?
Next are two questions...I know that I usually have two to three hours in creating each one. What would you suggest would be a good price point? I'll tell you I'm thinking $39 each, including packaging and postage. Heck. Do you think anyone would even want to purchase them?
I'm interested in your thoughts on these matters. Please leave a note with suggestions in the comments today. It's okay to be honest. I asked, after all.
Tonight is the monthly classmate dinner, but I'll be taking it easy until then. Yesterday was tiring, but I'm not going to overdo it today. I don't work again until Friday, so I'll get lots of downtime in until then.
Thanks for contemplating my questions and leaving comments for me! Classmate dinner group photo tomorrow.
That sounds like a great idea.
ReplyDeleteLove those jars of spools!
Have fun at the gathering.

Hi Marilyn:
DeleteThanks! They sure are eye candy, right?

I remember your prices when you first started selling and sure wish I had bought more then.!!
ReplyDeleteHi Judy:
DeleteHoney, I'm thinking of having a BIG sale through my blog...not Etsy. No extra fees would enable me to lower prices even more. Keep checking back so you don't miss it. Thanks for saying something.

Wow - you've got lots of spools to choose from!
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to purchasing finished spoolies, I wonder if (due to how much time they take) you would be better to make up little kits and an instruction sheet and sell those? It would take time to create instructions but they'd be a 'once and done' sort of thing. I'm saying this because I know how I'd end up feeling if I had to make that many actual items all basically the same. I'd be bored in no time and it would cease to be fun and become a chore. Sez I, who finally called a halt to making recycled denim jackets after about the 45th one.
Hi MA:
DeleteI LOVE THIS IDEA!!! Thank you so much, dear. I have boxes coming that I'd planned as packaging for finished spoolies., but they'd be perfect for kits, too. Taking this in a different direction now, thanks to you. I'm pretty excited!!!!! Can you tell?

You're going to need a few more shelves.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your dinner out.

Hi Shirley:
DeleteI loved MA's idea. Perhaps I'd be wiser to create kits from my designs, and insert a spool in each kit? I already have most of the supplies, and I agree it would be more fun to try to peddle kits than make multiples of my spoolies. I may have to make one more of each of my existing ones to photograph instructions for the kits, or perhaps just show the basic concept no matter what the animal. I think that might leave more room for personal creativity. My mind is already filled with ideas, so we'll see how long it takes me to get toward actual kits.
We had a grand dinner yesterday. Thank you, dear.

Sherry of createology: Oh I also love MA’s idea of kits. That would be great for those of us who love to create things we see. I know I am late to this party but glad I got here.
