Silver and Gold...

I've been a busy girl. Kes is finally tolerating Fezzik to the extent that she doesn't bolt from the room when he tries to lie down next to her. They even play together a little bit, too. It's really wonderful for me because I can actually steal little blocks of time in the studio without worrying about what they're doing.

Yesterday, I began assembling the nine-patch blocks into the quilt top that will become Spring Magic. Twyla has chosen this quilt as the first name I pulled in the 500th Post Giveaway. I'll complete all the piecing today, and then I'll spend the weekend quilting both Twyla's and Charlene's quilts.

I'm not surprised that Twyla liked this fabric. It reminds me of her vintage vibe, and I'm sure it will fit right in at her house. I'm hoping that Charlene will like the look of her quilt in her Pacific coast home, too!

I really appreciate all the wonderful friends, both "silver" and "gold"*, who entered the drawings and left such sweet comments for me. I just want to let you know that I'm going to do something a little different through the end of the year.

I'm planning a few other drawings, but they'll be for those of you who regularly read and comment on my blog. I'll write my regular daily posts, but I'll occasionally close with a surprise drawing that will only be for people who comment on that day.

So, don't feel bad if you didn't win this drawing. Perhaps the next one will be lucky for you! I know that my life is better because you're in it.

*PS. In case you don't know the reference to "silver" and "gold"...When I was a young girl scout, we used to sing the song..."Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold."
Love you all! xoxo

  6. Hi Girlfriend,

Wow, you're fast! The quilt for Twyla and Lindsey is adorable, and you're right, it looks like a perfect fit with their style. Having never quilted before, I'm just amazed at how quickly you've got it all put together, you can tell it's done with love. I love working in my medium, too, but I hate having to wait for my sculpts to dry in between steps. I really love it when you show the fabric choices. I have a weakness for fabrics, so I would probably faint in your studio. Okay, I'm rambling now. Take care sweetie.

    Love ya'

  8. My gosh, that quilt is just beautiful. What a treasure to receive.

Remember that song "Silver and Gold" from the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer special? Well, you put it in my head this morning. A delightful little tune -- thanks! And what a wonderful idea.

The quilt is gorgeous. All your work is gorgeous.

We come back on the 30th - cannot wait. I have missed my sewing room/studio. Hope I'll see you around more this year.

  10. I remember singing that song at every girl scout meeting. There is also a sone in the cartoon movie "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" called "Silver and Gold", remember watching that every year?
That was before VCR's and DVD's when you had to wait a whole year to watch a beloved show.
    Love to you,
    Debbie

  11. Silver and Gold is very well known to me even though I was a Camp Fire Girl forever. We sang that song also. I think everyone should still honor Silver and Gold. Your work is beautiful Miss Donna. I must have been thinking of Kes and Fezzik last night as I was dreaming I all of a sudden had my almost 17 year old Sasha kitty and 3 dogs like yours. Hmmm...

What a beautiful piece once again, your creations are over the moon gorgeous, Donna.

We finally finished both house constructions & took off for 2 weeks. I apologize, but will be better now.

  15. Donna, I fondly remember the song. I like the thought of "silver" and "gold" friendships. The nine patch is lovely with all those yummy fabrics. You are an amazing lady. I'm so happy I discovered your blog.

  16. I sang that same song, too!

Such a wonderful give-away gift, Donna! Twyla is very lucky as is Charlene.

I'll be anxious to see how you're going to quilt them. That is always my most difficult decision.

I've got my sister's quilt for her 70th birthday about 1/2 done. Now that my autumnal decorating is done, I can put more time into completing it.

p.s. This is the THIRD time that I'm trying to post this response to this post. I kept getting "unavailable" notices. ????
I hope it goes through this time!

  17. Can't wait to see the quilts you create for the lucky winners. Glad to hear the pups are getting along just fine. When we got little Neo, he was always bugging his big sister. And he actually still bugs her - but she has come to tolerate it much better. :) Theresa

  18. What a pretty quilt this is turning out to be!! I am hoping to maybe start one when winter comes along- I have been so busy canning I have time for hardly anything else!! Seems everything gets ripe all at once here in CO with the shorter growing season!

  19. It would have been the greatest thing ever to win but I am happy for the two girls who get it.
