This Is The Face Of A Hunter...

Just look at that sweet face. Would you believe that this is the face of a hunter? My four month old Fezzik has the heart of a giant - but who would think that the genes in this little guy's show dog background camouflage a brave hunter?

I can't share photos from our adventure yesterday because it happened at dusk - outside - and I didn't have my camera. We'd only gone out for a potty break (Fezzik and Kes, not me). I'll just share the essence of what happened and let you use your imagination...
"Fezzy. Remember the story Mom read to you about how the little corgi got lost chasing a rabbit into the woods?"

"Yes, Mom. I remember. Little Dog Lost. You read it to me so I'd be careful."

"You were so brave, Fezzy. I watched you freeze in your tiny, puppy tracks when you saw our resident bunny in the yard yesterday for the first time. It was so cute to see your hunter's instinct take over. You dropped into a low crouch, and slowly walked away from me and toward our bunny."

"I wasn't scared, Mom. I knew you were there if it came after me. I'd never seen a bunny before. It didn't even run away!"

"Fezzy. Mom just giggled when you sat down, growled your Big Boy growl and then barked your brave bark. You sure told that bunny a thing or two."

"Bunny didn't seem very bothered, Mom."

"It's ok, Little One. Bunny's never met a brave corgi puppy before. I'm sure that next time you bark, he'll show a little more respect...and Mom will try not to giggle."

PS. Don't worry, Shell. No bunnies were harmed in the making of this adventure.

  15. He isn't a hunter at all, but a friend to the bunnies and the creatures of the wild. He will protect them from harm and they will have many good conversations. He growled to warn the bunny of a human.
There was peace and love in the world and they all lived happily ever after.
You know I love a happy ending. :)

  16. My oh my, I love your blog. I especially love your four legged family members too. Its hard to let go of the family members that have passed. we are constantly calling Phoebe our yellow lab, Maggie after our chocolate lab. We also have a chow mix William Wallace, that we catch ourselves calling him Gandolf after my Scottie.
I love all you needle work. You are a wonderful needlework artist.
    I will be back often.

  18. Oh, yeah.....I see a lot of hunting in Fezz's future. Our dogs go crazy when they see a squirrel or bunny outside the fence but they would have no idea what to do if they caught one. They track them all over the yard but have never come nose to nose with them. I love th epics of your little guy....

  20. Oh the things we see,
when we go out to pee!

Yes, we have adventures in the backyard with rabbits and deer. I will say "Rabbit! Rabbit!" and off the dogs go barking! One day I said that when deer where in the backyard. The dogs took off barking away and when they saw those deer....the dogs froze like statues. I guess they thought those rabbits had done a lot of growing since they last saw them!
