It's A "D"...

I just had to share this wonderful, little gift I received late last week! The return address was from my generous friend, Claudia of Mockingbird Hill Cottage. Claudia lives in New York State. Whatever could this be?

I opened the package to find this box with a beautiful tag and blue and brown ribbon that really looked good enough to eat!
When I removed the ribbon and tag, my initial was revealed.

Years ago, Handsome and the boys gave me a beautiful pendant that just bowled me over. I was actually speechless when I looked at it. The art deco details of the pendant actually kept me from realizing that it was my own initial. The boys looked at me and said, "It's a "D"!" It's been a family joke for over 20 years now. Perhaps I'll photograph my pendant and share it with you later this week. But I digress...

This box is beautiful, and has my initial on it. What a cool gift! But, wait...there's something inside!
Claudia!!!! You know how to touch my heart, girlfriend! All these wonderful acorns, tucked beautifully into my initial box. I squealed with delight and rushed from the studio into the kitchen to show them to Handsome.

"Acorns."

"Aren't they beautiful, Honey? Look at the beautiful box Claudia used to package them!"

"Uh, huh. It's a "D"."

What could I say? He had me cold. I just giggled. Some family jokes just never get old.

Thank you, dear Claudia. I love the "D" box, your handcrafted tag, and all the precious acorns. I can't tell you how I appreciate your generosity...and for taking the time to mail this thoughtful gift to me.

Please take the time to click on Claudia's link above - especially if you've never visited her before. Really. She's a beautiful soul.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, #1 SON!!!

PS. Last night, I auditioned to sing with the North Port Chorale. I'll be joining the alto section from now on, and when they perform, my Handsome husband will be backing up the Chorale on the drum kit. I can't begin to tell you how tickled I am about that! Of course, our first concert is in November and I have to commit all the pieces to memory by then. No pressure!

  5. You are more than welcome, sweet friend! I'm so glad you like them. Every time I set off for a brisk walk, my pace suddenly slows and I find myself scouting acorns for you!

I sang in choirs for many years - alto, of course!

Have fun and enjoy your acorns.

  6. Congratulations on your new singing career! It's a D! Is beautiful and all those lovely acorns. I picture in my mind one day a squirrel will look into a window of your home. He will spy the abundance of acorns and rally his friends for a coup.

  8. How sweet of Claudia!!!! My Hubby & I love acorns too. We bought a piece of property on Acorn Lane once & that started is all. One year for Christmas I gave him a set of 3 CONCRETE acorns. The largest one is sooooooooooooo heavy I have to roll it to vacuum under it & roll it back to the dent in the carpet where it sits. But, we still love them (even if we did sell the lot & not build there after all). HUGS!

My husband & I went acorn hunting this weekend, but the squirrels beat us to them! Only found caps. Ah, well...will have to start sooner next year! :)
