Grammie's Jammies 2022...

 

Now that Christmas has passed, I can share photographs of the jammies I made for our grandkids this year. I cheated and purchased the tops, but these are the bottoms I made for them.

First up are the bottoms I made for Grandson. The fabric is The Print Shop by Sweetwater for Moda. This specific print is #5740.

 

 

 

I hate to purchase new buttons when I have enough vintage and older buttons to open my own button shop. (That's how I ended up opening a needlework shop in 1989!) These are the buttons I chose for his bottoms. I used Simplicity Pattern #D0834, because it's a slim cut pattern (which our guy sure is), and it has the two-button fly detail, plus the waistband button which I like better than fully elastic slip-ons.

 

 

These are the girls jammies. #1 Granddaughter's are on the right, and #2 Granddaughter's are on the left. I think I've told you in the past that I prewash all the jammie fabrics prior to cutting and sewing. The fabric is washed in warm water and tumble dried high heat so that I do the worst to the fabric before I sew everything together. They'll never get that wash and dry treatment again, but this way I know that the fabric won't shrink any more than it already has.

 

These are fabrics I've loved and hoarded saved for more than a few years. Fabric on the left is a Faye Burgos design for Marcus Brothers Textiles. There is no other information on the selvage. 

Fabric on the right is Azalea Trail by Nancy Odom for P & B Textiles ©2002. Yikes. I guess I just revealed how long I've had that line!  I had all the coordinating fabrics for that line, too. I'll have to look through my dark colors to see what else is left. I may have to make something else with it!

 

I used buttons on this pair that picked up the peachy color in the print. The photograph (unfortunately) doesn't show that it's a lovely pearly button.

 

 

More vintage buttons for this fabric, which I think begged for something old rather than new. The lady's pants are from Simplicity Pattern #D8518/0838. They also have a two-button fly (plus one), and partial elastic around the back which makes them extra comfortable.

 

I'm hoping each of them send Grandma a photo wearing them, so I can add it to my sewing scrapbook. I hope they enjoy wearing them at least until next Christmas, when I'll sew new ones to add to their collections. 

Birthday Projects Finished...

Brynwood Needleworks - Sweetwater "Love Zipper Bag" and Noodlehead Zippy Wallet

I have more gifts to make toward the end of the month, but the gifts for two special, little girls are finished now. These are on their way to Birthday Girl #2.  You saw the "Love Zippered Bag" in yesterday's post. The little wallet in front was what I made today...in about an hour!

It's a great coin purse made from a tutorial on Noodlehead. Anna shared the whole technique HERE on her blog. I know I'll be making many more.

Brynwood Needleworks - Back of Love Zipper Bag and Zippy Wallet

I got the label on the back of the zippered bag, and then added one to the back of the little wallet right away. They weren't complete without them.

I really believe that everything you make should have some sort of label to "autograph" your work. You can use anything - from the woven labels I'm fond of, to little hand written labels on twill tape - or right onto the fabric - with a permanent pen.

When I posted the photos on Facebook, I received compliments on my fabric choices. I though you might like to know which fabrics I used, but I'm not sure whether or not they're still current. "Pristine" was the line I used for the exterior fabric.

Jackie Clark for Benartex

The blue dotted stripe is by Jackie Clark from Benartex. I don't know the name of the line, though, because all I had of it was cut into fat quarters...and this was the only section of selvage with any information on it. Poo!

In case you're wondering what's up next...I have a commission for another clutch wallet in the swimsuit fabric. It's all cut out, interfaced and waiting for me to assemble it. Lunch with friends today and then I'll start putting it together.

The rain stopped long enough for our yard to dry up a bit. We were thinking we'd need farm machinery to bale up the long grass if we didn't get it cut pretty soon. I like riding around on our mower. I have time to just think about what I want to make or do.

Thankfully, we were able to mow yesterday, so our yard is back to looking civilized. I can go to the studio and play again...guilt-free!

Sweetwater's Love Zipper Bag...

Another special Birthday next weekend, so I'm busy making a collection of projects to mail. This one is made from the "Love Zipper Bag" pattern from Sweetwater. It was super simple to make, and I love the way it turned out.

I'm told that the recipient loves the colors purple and "acid green". Well, I have lots of greens in my inventory, but not "acid green".

I did have these feminine purple roses which reminded me of the vintage wallpaper in my childhood bedroom. (The color in my room was red, but the design was the same.) I think this meets the "purple" criteria - and fulfills my preference for "girly", too.

Sweetwater's original design called for a special "Love" label, but I had this one for a tote pattern and decided to use it here instead.

I have a Sweetwater "Label Crew Membership", so I get a new pattern each month. Each month's pattern comes complete with a label used in that design and a personalized label for signing my work. It's a great value and the labels are always fun to receive.

***As I write this, I realize that I forgot to put any label in this one! I'll be adding that personalized, iron on label to the inside of one of the pockets as soon as I finish writing this. (face palm)

Sweetwater Love Zipper Bag - Brynwood Needleworks Version - Zipper Pulls

I completed the bag (except for the label!) by adding the zipper pulls to the zippers. The top one is the "Handmade" pull that I purchase from Janelle McKay at Emmaline Bags in Canada. They're high quality and Janelle ships them fast from "up north". My orders take no time at all to arrive here in south Florida.

The second pull is a sun charm I've had in my supplies, waiting for the perfect project. It has a moon on the reverse. It was a fun addition to this piece.

I'll finish the rest of my projects for the Birthday girl today and then they'll be ready to mail away to the Birthday Girl.

Sand and Sweetwater...

Tag and I are taking it easy. He's lying upside down and sleeping as I write this post. Perhaps he's dreaming of running in the sand at the dog beach? Soon, Little Man. No swimming 'til you're healed.
