March Craft Day...

Last Saturday was Craft Day in Portage. We each had a needle felting kit to make, but none of us finished them before our gathering was over. We all took them home to finish.

I sat down as soon as I got home and went about completing mine, but felt it looked a bit more rat-like than foxy, so I reworked it over the weekend. This is my finished project.

I purchased my kit from Grey Fox Felting  (HERE). The kit came with all the supplies needed to complete this piece, and there's enough wool in the kit to make another smaller one. You can see what the original looks like from their website photo.

I got a little carried away and added legs and a black tip to my fox's tail on mine, and I think mine had been eating a little more than the model, too.

All in all, I think it's a good first attempt at making something more realistic than the snowman from our first class. I definitely need more practice, though, so I'll probably take that leftover wool and try to mimic the fox on their website more closely. I can see I need to practice "faces" more. Practice makes perfect!

I haven't seen anyone else's project yet, but I'll share once they do. I know there'll be some cute ones, because these ladies are pretty talented. Even Adrienne's son made one. He made a cat that day, and a fox later in the weekend. You'll definitely want to see those!

Another week in the rearview mirror. Work tonight, and I picked up hours for tomorrow. We're stretched pretty thin at the station. My boss has been interviewing and training, only to have people call in saying they don't want the job - or in some cases, just not showing up at all. It's very frustrating and means that the rest of us need to pick up the open spots. I offered up my free Saturday when the call went out. yippee

All the main giveaway gifts went out yesterday, but I still have the jewelry case to convert for Bobbi (her request), and a couple others from the auxilliary giveaway. Those will go out today. Bobbi's will go out early next week. I'll work on it over the weekend. I'll visit again soon, but I've got to run for now.

Happy Friday!

    1. Hi Marilyn:
Thank you, dear. I've seen a mouse Marie completed, and I love it! Adrienne's son, George made a cat the day we crafted, and then finished a fox of his own. They're not as first as the ladies' pieces, but I have to say, they're quite wonderful. He does love joining us for our craft days! I'll be glad when my Saturday shift is over. I'm already tired! lol

  2. awwww - another little cutie! I needle felted a snowy owl but that's all I've done with the technique. I've toyed with adding some to my landscapes but not sure how sturdy the end result would be.
Sorry about your boss finding it so difficult to get staffing. Our son (the chef) will tell you the same thing about his business. People just don't bother to show up. The work ethic in people these days is sadly lacking. He ends up working double shifts seven days a week just to keep the restaurant open. Not good for his marriage or our grandson.

    1. Hi MA:
Thanks, hon! I have a kit for a snowy owl, too. I'll do that one soon. I bet your landscapes would be fun with added felting. Try it on a small piece to see how you like it, and to test the sturdiness. I'm all for it! My boss is running double shifts just like your son. Truthfully, I worry about her. The gal who I started working with a year ago put in her last day today. We've promised to get together, as we were the Tuesday Dream Team - she in the kitchen and me in front at the register. I'm going to miss her, but her husband has had enough of her working double shifts and being crabby. I don't blame her one bit. There were a lot of tears - not mine, because I know I'll see her - but my boss is a wreck over her leaving. We couldn't get a cook to pick up the shift Saturday, so my boss closed the kitchen. She's been ill for two weeks and needs to stay home and rest. I'll be on my own all day. Something new for me. I'm just betting Handsome shows up and sits in the restaurant area for an hour just to make sure I'm okay. He's protective that way. Best wishes to your son and daughter-in-law. I know it's not easy.

  3. Sherryofcreateology: Such a cute felted fox. I felted a hedgehog and gave it as a gift. That craft was not for me! I gave away all my felting supplies I had over-purchased with excitement. You are so good to step in and cover shifts. I am not a fan of the work ethic of people these days. I believe we (America) have too many giveaway programs. Happy Weekend Dear.

    1. Hi Sherry:
Awww, honey. I bet your hedgie was gorgeous! I understand needle felting's not for everyone. Lots of poked fingers last weekend. (Thankfully not mine!) I can't do much in the way of filling in. I injured my knee right after Handsome left for Florida, and have an appointment early next week with an ortho to find out why it's still hurts so much. I have to go up and down the stairs one step at a time, like a three year old, and it wakes me up at night. Time to find out what's going on with it. Finding people to work is like finding hen's teeth. They'll happily sit home. I don't get it. Have a good weekend, my friend. Better days ahead.

  4. He is just adorable. The feet and tail detail just finish him off.
Don't get me started on work ethic or lack there of.
I dealt with way too many years of it before I retired.

    1. Hi Shirley:
Thanks so much! I keep second guessing myself about the legs and tail, but enough people like the addition that it's changing my mind. wink. I'm sure you know about the lack of work ethic. Other business owners who come into work say it's the same everywhere. I think it's really sad.
      Happy Weekend, dear.

    1. Hi Bobbi:
You're so kind to say so. Thank you, my friend. I have an owl to do, too. Perhaps I'll tackle that one next weekend. I feel more confident having completed this one. Happy Weekend, dear. I'll be in touch soon!
